Take Part in a Bike Focus Group

NOACA is conducting bike focus groups  to obtain feedback about northeast Ohio's bicycle facilities, cyclists improvements that would increase bicycle commuting, and other bicycling topics. Staff has received useful input from focus groups that have been held during the past week. NOACA seeks additional cyclists with beginning, intermediate, and advanced skills to fill open slots for focus groups planned in Chardon on Wednesday, August 1 and Medina on Saturday, August 4. Contact NOACA Multimodal Planner Marc Von Allmen if you can participate.

Comment on Proposed Transportation Improvements

NOACA welcomes public review and comment on all of its federally funded programs and projects. For the next two months, descriptions of 18 proposed road, bridge and transit projects from Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Medina Counties will be available on the website for review and comment. At its September 14, 2012 meeting, the NOACA Governing Board will consider adding these projects to the region's long-range transportation plan and getting them one step closer to federal funding.

NEOSCC Compiles Conditions and Trends Data

The Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium (NEOSCC) has issued a Conditions and Trends Platform for northeast Ohio. This document is a compilation of research and data about the region that will serve as a resource  for continued dialogue and foundation for developing a vision for our future.

Akron area NEOSCC
engagement session

This spring, NEOSCC hosted five engagement sessions for young leaders to gather ideas about what makes a community alive and vibrant. After an outstanding turnout for these sessions, NEOSCC has planned a few more. The next session will take place Tuesday, July 31 at the Lorain County Transportation Center in Elyria at 5:30 p.m. Additional sessions are scheduled in Canton on August 14 and Cleveland on August 21. Take this opportunity to share your ideas-there may be other people attending with similar visions!

Ohio EPA Introduces New E-Check Program

Would you rather do anything else than get your E-check vehicle emissions test? The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (Ohio EPA) has implemented a new E-check program, ChoicePlus, that will make this mandatory test easier and more convenient. The ChoicePlus program adds 53 emissions test locations to the existing 23 E-check stations throughout northeast Ohio. New locations include neighborhood auto care businesses and Lube Stops. Self-serve kiosks are also being added to 16 existing E-check stations to allow people (with vehicles newer than 1996) to conduct their emissions test anytime during the day. For more information about ChoicePlus and emissions test locations, visit Ohio EPA's E-check web page.

Attend the 2012 Ohio Conference on Freight

Registration is underway for the 2012 Ohio Conference on Freight, Mobilizing the Global Economy. The conference will take place September 13-14, 2012 at the Kalahari Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio. A major focus of the 2012 Ohio Conference on Freight will be how freight facilities and trade corridors connect Ohio, its neighboring states, and Canadian provinces to the world. Freight conference goals include strengthening the ability of the public and private sectors to effectively plan, build, and maintain an efficient transportation network, and discussing policies that support freight-related economic development. The freight conference is sponsored by the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, National Association of Regional Councils, and Ohio Department of Transportation.
