Maier Receives 2012 Ehrnfelt Award

After eight years of presenting the Walter F. Ehrnfelt Award for Outstanding Regional Contribution to regional leaders, NOACA Executive Director Howard R. Maier received his own "Wally" award on June 8 at NOACA's 13th annual Summit. The award recognizes leadership, regional cooperation, dedication and accomplishment, traits exemplified by the late Strongsville Mayor Walter F. Ehrnfelt, Jr., for whom the award is named.

This is the ninth year that NOACA has presented the award. Maier joins the company of Betty Blair, Neil Hofsetter, Bob Klaiber, Steve Hambley, Erwin Odeal, Jerry Hruby, Chris Ronayne and Daniel Troy, previous recipients of the award.

Summit Report
2012 Summit Report

At the June 8 Summit, NOACA also distributed Transitions, the 2012 Summit Report. This annual report summarizes progress on NOACA plans, programs and services, and highlights the agency's work and accomplishments over the past fiscal year.

Find Bicycle/Pedestrian Counts on NOACA Website

Which roads and bicycle facilities in our region get the most use? bike countsCheck out bicycle/pedestrian counts on NOACA's website. With the help of volunteers, NOACA took the counts in September 2011 and May 2012.

Data collected during the bike count sessions included gender of bicyclists, number of cyclists riding without a helmet, and those who used sidewalks instead of the road. The count program, which NOACA intends to conduct biannually, will help planners determine where to prioritize funding and develop future projects.

Regional Household Travel Survey in Full Swing

logoNOACA and consultant Geostats are one-third of the way toward a recruitment goal of 6,253 households for the Regional Household Travel Survey. NOACA is conducting this survey to gain a better understanding of northeast Ohio's transportation needs and obtain data about how and why people travel in the area. RHTShouse6-12Geostats is selecting random households from throughout NOACA's five-county area for the survey. Participants record their daily travel via a GPS device that monitors and logs trip data, or by manually keeping a trip "diary."

NOACA is also sponsoring a regional on-board transit survey to collect travel data from transit users in NOACA's five counties. RTA will administer the survey, which will be launched late this summer, on behalf of the region.

Discuss Transportation/Disability Issues at Lorain County Forum

The free forum will focus on transportation issues and barriers that affect accessible, affordable public transportation, as well as available and potential solutions. LEAP will gather input from attendees on how well their needs are being met and how to improve access to services. Contact Donna Prease of LEAP to register or for more information.
