If you are an Alabama resident and are at least age 65 or retired due to disability, you may qualify for a full or partial Alabama property tax exemption. The income threshold for the exemption increases from $7,500 to $12,000 for tax years beginning on or after October 1, 2012.

You must request this exemption through your county tax collector's office as it is not automatic.
