Charitable IRA Rollover

If you are over age 701/2 you can transer up to $100,000 from your IRA to a qualified chariy without counting the distribution as income. The check must be made payable to the charity. However, you may have the check sent to you so that you can hand deliver it.

The gift must come from an IRA, but some other tax-deferred assets can be rolled into an IRA, and then the gift may be made.

December 31, 2011 is the deadline for the Charitable IRA Rollover. However, many brokers will require that it be requested prior to December 10th. Check with your IRA advisor for deadlines.
