60-Second Financial Advice

December 1, 2010

Are you paying too much in property taxes?

If you own and occupy your primary residence in Alabama, review the tax notice you receive to make sure your home is classified as "Class 3" residential property. Any other classification may mean you are paying too much in property taxes.

If your property is not class 3 you will need to take your deed to the Tax Assessors office at the courthouse and have them reassess the property in your name and claim the homestead exemption before December 31, 2010. Changes made now are effective for your taxes due in 2011.

If you are over age 65 or disabled you may qualify for a full or partial exemption of property taxes on your personal residence. Contact our firm for more information.
