Mayor Charles Murphy
The PADD Board of Directors and staff express our deepest sympathy to the family, friends and the City of Hickman on the death of Mayor Charles Murphy. Mayor Murphy was a member of our Board and admired for his strong dedication to the Hickman community.
Collapse of Eggner's Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake

During the evening hours of January 26th, a large cargo ship collided with the Eggner's Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake at Aurora, causing two of the bridge's spans to collapsed on the ship's bow. Governor Steve Beshear has ordered an immedite review of options to restore the route, assessing the situation to see whether repair is feasible or planned construction of a new bridge can be accelerated.
The PADD is sponsoring an Application Procedure Meeting on February 7, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. Grant applications for Section 5310 program are now being accepted by the Office of Transportation Delivery. This grant provides reimbursement funding for the acquisition of vehicles and equipment, which will be used to provide transportation services to the elderly and or persons with disabilities.
The PADD Board of Directors has passed a resolution requesting the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the U.S. Congress to support a means for continued funding for Kentucky Lock & Dam project located on the Tennessee River. There is a likelihood construction will be halted near the end of 2013 which will leave the project at 45% complete until additional funding is secured.
The West Kentucky Workforce Investment Board has released the RFP for Operation Workforce, which are grants that provide communities a unique opportunity to develop events highlighting their workforce. Operation Workforce events can range from community career/job fairs, introduction of industries to the community, or industry sector showcases.
The I-69 corridor planning study for the Fulton to Eddyville section has now been completed. The study reviewed existing conditions along the Purchase Parkway and I-24 to identify locations that do not meet current American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and Federal Highway Administration design guidelines for interstates.
