Recovering from Mother Nature's Fury

Project Water Assists with Clean-Up and Restoration
The West KY Workforce Investment Board has been awarded $2.7 million by the KY Education & Workforce Development Cabinet, Dept. of Workforce Investment, to assist with debris clean-up and restoration efforts from flood and storm damage. Rep. Ed Whitfield visited the PADD on June 10th to present a check and announced the release of more than $4.2 million in emergency federal funding for the Commonwealth.

Regional Ranking Process

Every two years, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reviews projects on the Unscheduled Projects List to establish local, regional, and district priorities for those projects. This information is then used as input for recommendations to the state's Biennial Highway Plan. The PADD helps to administer the state's priority process for local and regional input as part of the Regional Transportation Program.  

Energy efficient products drive demand and create new jobs

Governor Beshear Announces Pella Expansion
Governor Steve Beshear has announced that Pella Corporation will expand its Murray operations.  The expansion will create 75 new jobs.  The West Kentucky Workforce Investment Board and West Kentucky Community and Technical College have been working with Pella and the Murray-Calloway Economic Development Corporation to provide pre-employment training screening for the new employees. 

Your Input is Needed to Help Plan Future Aging Services

The PADD Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living is currently conducting a Needs Assessment Survey which will help determine which services are needed in the region. With limited funding available, the Needs Assessment Survey is a valuable tool for planning future services.  The general public is invited to participate.

Delta Regional Authority Celebrates New Clinic

The Delta Regional Authority, in conjunction with Governor Steve Beshear, ARcare, and the Carlisle County Fiscal Court, officially broke ground on the KentuckyCare Health Clinic in Bardwell, Kentucky.  The DRA awarded $150,000 to Carlisle County for this health clinic renovation project, the first of its kind in the county.

2012 State Revolving Fund Intended Use Plans Released

The Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KIA) has released its draft 2012 State Revolving Fund (SRF) Intended Use Plans for Clean Water and for Drinking Water. KIA will have approximately $132 million available for clean water projects and $38 million available for drinking water projects.  Included in the draft are six sewer and three water projects in the Purchase Region.  Plans will be available for public comment from 7/7- 8/5. Written comments should be provided to KIA before the public review meeting on 8/5.

PADD Receives USDA Grant to Expand Emergency Feeding Program

The USDA awarded the PADD Food Bank and Commodity Programs an Emergency Food Assistance Program Rural Infrastructure Grant totaling $164,476 for a variety of equipment to improve capabilities for food storage and transportation. The bulk of the funding was dedicated to purchasing a new 24 foot refrigerated truck for the PADD to pick up and deliver items to our network of food banks who also benefited.

Region Considers Foreign Trade Zone Designation
Business leaders, elected officials, and economic professionals are considering how a Foreign Trade Zone designation could enhance the region. Over the next few weeks, a survey will be sent to existing industries in the region to gauge their interest in a foreign trade zone designation. Sites within the zone must be defined along with information from any interested companies wanting benefits of the designation.
