Summer's over...what a bummer! But the fall colors are here in Montana, and that's always inspiring for me as an artist.
Although I often get distracted by photographic trips and hunting adventures at this time of year, I'll be spending most of my time over the next few months building up inventory and creating new works for my upcoming show season. I'm always working on African subjects, but also plan on doing some special sheep pieces for a big show in Reno, pieces like this one of Dall sheep in Alaska.

I continue to explore the possibilities of 3-D art; this elephant is another example of this medium, made with a special fast-drying clay and then painted with acrylics. It sure adds an interesting dimension to the originals, and gives me a chance to sculpt a little, which is always fun.
I've also just recently added oil painting to my repertoire, and I plan on having a small selection of oils at the shows. I'm finding it very inspiring as well, as it certainly handles differently than the acrylics, and allows for more texture and a slightly looser style. I've always painted flat on a table, so it's taking some time to get used to painting upright on an easel without getting paint all over my hands!

I'm off tomorrow for a quick reference trip to Jackson, where I hope to photograph some moose, elk and antelope, if weather permits. Then it'll be back to the art table!
Hope your fall is productive and fun, and please feel free to contact me for more details about the pieces you see here.
