Hello QUEST Friends,
This spring has certainly been full of exciting new changes to the QUEST community. As we prepare for the upcoming 20th Anniversary Celebration this week, it seems particularly fitting to reflect on all that has happened in QUEST over the past several months.
In this issue, you can read some thoughts from a member of the QUEST Selections and Recruiting team about how Cohort 20 was chosen. Make sure you also check out the article on the incoming cohort and find out what makes them great new additions to the program!
We also reconnected with an inspiring alumnus from Cohort 3 who is currently serving in Afghanistan with the US Army Reserves, and this month we wrap up our student profile highlight on the members of QSO. Finally, read about the newest QUEST initiative for seniors, the Incubator.
Alumni should also check out our Alumni Corner at the bottom of this issue for updates and a chance to win a QUEST t-shirt. We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the 20th Anniversary Celebration on Thursday to commemorate two decades of IBM-TQ/QUEST!
Best,
Kathryn Weiland, QUEST Graduate Assistant

Interview by Sophia Wu (Q18)
1) Please tell us a little about yourself.
I was born in Ghana, West Africa. I migrated to the United States in 1992 at the age of 15 to be with my parents and also pursue my education. I graduated from High Point High School, Beltsville, MD in 1996. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (2001) and a Master of Engineering Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering (2011), both from the University of Maryland at College Park... Reflections on Selections and Recruiting
Article by Varisha Parikh (Q18)
Two years ago, I sat in my first QUEST Spring Information Session. I was an excited freshman who was so easily amazed by Dr. Bailey's bowtie and his Testudo pants. I listened attentively to all the details about this interdisciplinary honors program. I watched a team of students present a really cool project they'd worked on. But when I left that night, what stuck with me was that each student was there because they wanted to spend time, effort, and energy promoting this program. I figured the only way I would find out why each student spoke about QUEST with so much passion was if I became a part of the program....Read More

The Incubator
Article by Alex Bansleben (Q18)
The Incubator: one of the newest initiatives of the QUEST program as it turns 20 years old. Very much like some current students reaching this age, QUEST is beginning to take on some new challenges and focus on the "real world" (as students often say). I had the opportunity to speak with QUEST Executive Director, the one and only Dr. Bailey, about the newest program initiative- the QUEST Incubator...Read More

Editor's Note: Over the past few issues, QUESTPress has been highlighting 1-2 new members of the QSO board. Read about the final two members of QSO, Chul Kwon and Dathan Scott. Enjoy!
College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences Champion
CHUL KWON - Cohort 18
Chul is a very interesting gentleman. He's been to at least 25 different countries. He recently returned from the QUEST trip to Brazil, which, he will tell you, was an amazing experience for him. A modern day Renaissance man, Chul is a Computer Science major wanting to do a lot with his opportunity as a member of QSO 2012....Read More

Robert H. Smith School of Business Champion
DATHAN SCOTT - Cohort 18
Writing about myself is a great challenge, so I will try to make it very enjoyable for you. I am a proud member of Cohort 18, and am an Accounting and Information Systems double major. I've had my battles with accounting, so I guess you can say I'm more Information Systems than Accounting...Read More

Alumni Corner
Editor: Tracey Epstein (Q14)
As we all know, QUEST's 20th Anniversary Celebration will be taking place tomorrow, April 26th! We are so excited to have reconnected with many of QUEST's graduates and to now be in contact with over 60% of our alumni.
After tomorrow's celebration we hope to further increase our alumni outreach efforts and you can help! Check out our current alumni directory (User Name: quest; Password: testudo) to see if we are missing contact information for any of your personal contacts. If you see a name without a corresponding email address (these names will be italicized in bold), forward this individual QUEST's information update link.
If you notice that your information is not current, please make any updates using the same link. It will be important to stay current as we are looking to bring alumni events outside the DC area and enhance the continuity of the QUEST experience from incoming students to alumni.
Also, be sure to keep QUEST updated on any accomplishments or milestones by sharing your news.
Next month, look here for articles on QUEST's new Alumni Mentor Program and stories on recent alumni happenings.
