The History of QSO
QSO

Article by Russell Lyons (Q16)

Community is one of the most important aspects of QUEST. The close relationships that are created within the program can be difficult to find elsewhere at the University of Maryland. The faculty are very open to input from students about how the program should be run. One of the ways that the students in QUEST have their voice heard is through the QUEST Student Organization (QSO)...Read More

QUEST Students Relay for a Cause

Relay for LifeArticle by Jeff Jacobs (Q17)

As the rain cleared and the sun came out to illuminate Ludwig Field on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, it seemed as if the heavens had parted to bequeath this fateful day with a sunshine so magnificent that all University of Maryland students would forget their earthly troubles and concentrate their efforts instead on opening their senses to the musica universalis, if only for long enough to hear the delicately plucked notes of a fleeting nocturne. QUEST students, sensing this cosmic disturbance with the acuity only a QUEST student could possibly possess, came out in droves to have fun, eat great food, and raise awareness for an important issue...Read More

Current Student Spotlight - Manas Kulkarni (Q18)

Manas KulkarniInterview Conducted by Sophia Wu (Q18)

1) As one of the editors and writers for QUESTPress, what is your favorite part about being on the staff?

As I'm ironically the one who usually interviews students for the spotlight, I'm able to share great things my peers are doing with other QUESTees and even with QUEST alumni. And with other parts of QUEST, QUESTPress has encouraged me to learn new things - whether its a past 490 project's effect on campus or all the great things I missed at QUESTCamp - and I've really enjoyed that...Read More

Spring Break in Dubai
Dubai

Article by Jeff Lue (Q16)

Seeing as how it was my last spring break ever ( :( ), I felt it was fitting to go out with a bang. So I packed my bags and embarked on what will be the trip of a lifetime. Now I want preface this article and show you the mindset I had going into the trip. I have wanted to go to Dubai for four years: I even presented my COMM107 report on all the buildings they were building in Dubai. I had very high expectations going into this trip. As I would learn soon enough, this trip would meet my expectations, and then skyrocket above them...Read More

QUEST Student-Alumni DinnerDinner

Article by Steve Eyring (Q17)

In the QUEST Student Organization (QSO) this year, we have placed an emphasis on providing opportunities for students to engage with alumni.  The value of QUEST extends beyond our three years here as students and the sense of community within QUEST doesn't vanish after graduation.  QSO and QAB have been working together to bring more of these events to the community and we have been looking into providing a platform for individual students to connect with alumni.  For the upcoming fall semester, we are considering unique ways to foster these connections, such as philanthropy events and casual meetings...Read More

Alumni Profile - David Peckarsky (Q11)David Peckarsky

Interview Conducted by Dr. Joseph P. Bailey, QUEST Executive Director

How has your QUEST experience helped you in your position?

Perceived quality is something we talk about in QUEST.  One of the most interesting products I helped design is an electronic dimmer for a Bang & Olufsen remote control.  When I was working on that product, I was reminded about the "perceived quality" concept I learned in QUEST because it was very important for Bang & Olufsen to create a product that had a high perceived quality from its customers.  To increase the perceived quality of their remote, they increased the weight of the remote to 2 pounds so it would feel more substantial in the hands of the user...Read More
