JUNE 2012
Dear Friends,
Our annual June Pledge Drive is almost here. Starting on Friday, June 15, and running through Thursday, June 21, the Pledge Drive is our opportunity to ask you, our listeners, to chip in to keep Portsmouth Community Radio on the air. Please consider supporting Portsmouth Community Radio during the Pledge Drive. You can call your pledge in at 603-430-9722, pledge online, or stop into the Portsmouth Community Radio studios at 909 Islington Street, Portsmouth, to make your pledge. In addition, we are still in need of volunteer telephone operators to help out during the Pledge Drive. We need phone coverage from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the entire Pledge Drive week, and many of these time slots are still available. If you'd like to help out, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Jean Proulx at volunteer@wscafm.org. From all of us at Portsmouth Community Radio, thank you for your support!

Special Programming to Air During the June Pledge Drive

Scratchy 45s & Beyond
No Portsmouth Community Radio Pledge Drive can go by without something "scratchy" and special from the Scratchy 45s & Beyond show. On Saturday, June 16, host John "Supersport" Scavo will wake you up with a double-shot of scratchy 45s, beginning at 6 a.m.!
Joining Supersport during the morning will be Damon Thomas, and together with several cups of coffee, they will keep you entertained and take your pledges.
Then, at 9 a.m., Scratchy 45s & Beyond will feature every tune off of those vinyl albums you all remember from the '70s, when the announcer with the big, deep voice talked fast and said, "20 ORIGINAL HITS BY THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS!" K-Tel, Ronco, and other labels fit about as many songs on these 33 1/3 12" vinyl albums as the imagination could spin. Join Supersport, Damon, and special co-host Louie the Spindoctor for this fun and music-filled show.

Don't Dis My Ability
Ronnie Tomanio, host of Don't Dis My Ability, along with his guest Paul Bellefeuille and engineer John Lovering, will present a special one-hour Pledge Drive show on Tuesday, June 19, from 3 to 4 p.m.
During the show, listeners will hear excerpts of memorable and emotional Don't Dis My Ability interviews from the past year. Paul Bellefeuille will be along to help out with the Pledge Drive portion of the program. With Paul's amazing vocal impersonations, you may find yourself wondering, "Is it Paul, or is it Fritz?"
Don't Dis My Ability, a show for people living with disabilities and those who love and support them, airs only on Portsmouth Community Radio.

Special "Novelty Songs" Show
On Tuesday, June 19, from 4 to 5 p.m., John Lovering will host a one-hour special Pledge Drive show featuring novelty songs that are guaranteed to bring a smile to many faces.
Songs will include "King Tut," "Purple People Eater," "They're Coming To Take Me Away," "Disco Duck," "Flying Saucers Go West," and a selection from the wacky world of Spike Jones and His City Slickers.

Audio Theatre
On Tuesday, June 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., a special Audio Theatre Pledge Drive program will feature in-studio guests Chuck Curtis, Gillian Aguilar, and Guy Monti, all members of a group called the "Senior Scenes Players." They will share several of their comedy skit productions and discuss their memories of old-time radio.
In addition, the program will feature a special rebroadcast of a Portsmouth Community Radio Audio Theatre Players December 2006 production of "Gunsmoke: The Guitar." The rebroadcast will be dedicated to the memory of Bruce Allen, a member of our Audio Theatre Players who passed away this past December 16.
We will also hear Episode 5 of our continuing Australian Adventure series, "Afloat with Henry Morgan." This episode, "Longboat Rescued at Sea by Captain Morgan," originally aired in 1933. The program features an actor named George Edwards who would do up to 12 different voices in one show and as many as six voices in one scene!
Rounding out the show will be two "Baby Snooks" episodes starring Fannie Brice and Hanley Stafford.

Jazz Straightahead
On Wednesday, June 20, Terry MacDonald's special guest on Jazz Straightahead will be Sharon Jones. And because it's a special Pledge Drive show, Jazz Straightahead will broadcast for an extra hour that day, airing from 6 to 10 a.m.
Sharon Jones is a wonderful vocalist and entertainer and has been a favorite of seacoast audiences for many years. Sharon is also well loved by the Portsmouth Community Radio listening community, having hosted her show Singers Past and Present for a number of years until only recently.
Terry and Sharon promise an especially entertaining show with lots of great jazz and vocal music, some of it from Sharon's own collection, as well as lively discussion about the music and the stories behind the stories.
