Did You Know?
Church of St. Michael

We recently established a Building Maintenance /Improvement Fund, which will be used for repairs and maintenance of our parish facilities.

An anonymous parishioner has committed to a $25,000 matching gift, effectively providing a "dollar-for-dollar" match for the first $25,000 of contributions made to this fund during the months of April-June.

The carpet in the worship space is 25 years old and will cost over $80,000 to replace.  This is one example of how money in this fund would be used.

Please prayerfully consider making a contribution. You can use the special collections envelope included in your May/June envelope packet, contact the Parish Office, or donate online.

Ring Out the Good News                                      April 2011

_______________________________________

Greetings!

For the past six months, our Parish Pastoral Council has been studying ways that the Church of St. Michael might be more welcoming toward visitors and new members, especially within worship. A number of suggestions have come forth and these will be discussed by the appropriate committees in the months ahead.

However, I have always believed that the most effective work of welcoming people to our church is the work done by the individual members of this parish. A warm smile and a personal greeting can be more powerful in making a person feel welcome at Mass than any new practices or policies.
To Sing is to Pray Twice:
The St. Michael Choirs

By Theresa Lienau, Parishioner

Easter choir

"The best part of being in the choir is that the music is actually like a prayer. . .I am praying with the congregation through each and every song that we sing."

A little more than two years ago my husband and I were looking for a new parish.  We had been members at a Catholic church in South Minneapolis, but with living in Savage with a baby on the way, we were hoping to find something closer, and perhaps, with a school.

When we entered St. Michael's we were impressed with the warm, welcoming atmosphere, and then the prelude began.  My husband and I looked at each other and we both knew--we were home.

Coming Into the Catholic Church:
The Gift of God, Family & Community

By Hannah Woldum, Editor
Schaefer Family

"The Catholic Church offers a moral base for your kids and your family, which I think this is really important."

For Felicia Schaefer, the witness of family members, the desire to build a relationship with God, and the support and service of the St. Michael community have encouraged her to make a big decision.   Felicia plans to be baptized and enter the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil this April after participating in the RCIA program (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) at St. Michael this year.

Felicia currently lives in Prior Lake with her husband, Doug, and her 9-year-old stepdaughter, but she grew up in Minneapolis. "I was never baptized," she said of her childhood. "My mom was Catholic, but she felt that [baptism] was something that I should decide." Throughout her youth, Felicia believed in God, but "it wasn't really a huge priority."
