The Angelus

Ring Out the Good News                                          Dec. 2010

_______________________________________

Greetings!

We are excited to introduce the first issue of our parish e-newsletter this Advent. The Angelus will be published each month.

At sunset on December 1, our Jewish brothers and sisters began the annual celebration of Hanukkah, also known as The Festival of Lights. While Christians do not observe this festival, it is important to remember that Christian values are often rooted in the celebrations of our Jewish ancestors in faith. The celebration of Hanukkah would also have been celebrated by Jesus and his family. Therefore it is good for us to be aware of the significance of this Festival.

What we failed to realize is that my mom and five siblings, and my wife's parents and three siblings would be buying our kids toys. By the end of the holidays our house was a toy store and we still had two birthdays in January.

The first is "a rich and thought provoking study" of the history of the Catholic Church. "The Catholic Church: A History" is a series of thirty-six lectures on DVD, given by Professor William R. Cook from State University of New York.
