Who Really Knows if the Irish are Lucky?
St Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated internationally on March 17th. It commemorates the death of St. Patrick (c. AD 387-461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. The first U.S. parade for the holiday occurred in New York City on March 17, 1762. It featured Irish soldiers who served in the English military. More than 11 St. Patrick's Day parades are held across the U.S.; New York City and Boston are home to the largest celebrations. In 1995, Congress proclaimed March to be Irish-American heritage month.
So were the Irish really lucky? According to wikianswers.com, the answer is no! In fact the Irish have been, and are a spectacularly unlucky race as documented in all of history. The term was actually meant to be an ironic phrase. Translated from the Old Country, the original and proper form of this expression is "I could care less?" As far as the origin of the term, it comes from the legend of the 'Little People' of the land, or the leprechauns. Finding or catching a leprechaun (who would then give you gold) was a lucky event that could only take place in Ireland.
Whether you drink green beer, attend a parade, wear something green, eat corned beef and cabbage, wear lucky green cloverleaf's or lime green chrysanthemums on lapels; get out and enjoy St. Patrick's Day this year on March 17, 2012.

TEAM PLAYER
It's all very well to have courage and skill
And it's fine to be counted a star,
But the single deed with its touch of thrill
Doesn't tell the man or woman you are;
For there's no lone hands in the game we play,
We must work to a bigger scheme,
And the thing that counts in the world today
Is, how do you pull with the team?
They may sound your praise and call you great,
They may single you out for fame,
But you must work with your running mate
Or you'll never win the game;
Never the work of life is done By the man with a selfish dream,
For the battle is lost or the battle is won By the spirit of the team.
You may think it fine to be praised for skill,
But a greater thing to do
Is to set your mind and set your will
On the goal that's just in view;
It's helping your fellow man to score It's forgetting self till the game is complete
And fighting for the team

Spring Cleaning" of Your Attitude
Spring is right around the corner and one seasonal tradition is to do some "spring cleaning." Maybe you are ready to spruce up the house with a fresh coat of paint or have a garage sale to get rid of a bunch of dusty knick-knacks and unused items in the house. After all, one person's junk is another person's treasure.
You should do something similar with your success mindset. What is definitely not a treasure: piling up "stuff" that is blocking you from success? That includes negative emotions, a bad attitude, and unproductive people. So, just as you "spring clean" your house, it is time to clean your mental state of thoughts and feelings that hamper you, as well as rid your life of people that are holding YOU back. Clear that clutter from your mind. Take care of old business and loose ends. Only then can you truly enjoy the spring season. See

Spring has Sprung...Siriusly!
Spring begins March 20, 2012 and it's simple to know when spring is arriving. The sun rises in the earlier hours of the morning and sets later in the afternoon. The days get slightly warmer. Spring flowers start to appear, birds start building their nests and the farmers deliver new-born lambs. Weather varies throughout spring, worldwide. For Mobilians, beauty blooms every March in rose, pink, red, violet and white azaleas. Mobile is known as the Azalea City thanks to Frise Langlois who first brought the bright pink blossoms here from his father's garden in Toulouse, France in 1754.
Join us Downtown Mobile on March 24, 2012 for the Thirty-Fifth Annual Azalea Trail Run (ATR), one of the premier 10K road races in the United States. The event also includes 5K and 2K runs. All of the courses are flat and extremely fast. http://pcpacers.org/atr/index.html

Tax Time is Fast Approaching

The Internal Revenue Service opened the 2012 tax filing season by announcing that taxpayers have until April 17 to file their tax returns. The IRS encourages taxpayers to e-file as it is the best way to ensure accurate tax returns and get faster refunds. The IRS also announced a number of improvements to help make this tax season easy for taxpayers. This includes new navigation features and helpful information on IRS.gov
and a new pilot to allow taxpayers to use interactive video to get help with tax issues.Taxpayers will have until Tuesday, April 17, to file their 2011 tax returns and pay any tax due because April 15 falls on a Sunday, and Emancipation Day, a holiday observed in the District of Columbia, falls this year on Monday, April 16. According to federal law, District of Columbia holidays impact tax deadlines in the same way that federal holidays do; therefore, all taxpayers will have two extra days to file this year. Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Oct. 15 to file their 2012 tax returns.
March 2012 Recruiting Advice
Do You Know the Top 10 Internet Job Searching Sites?
We all hope that Sirius Technical is your number one place to go when looking for a job, but do you know where else to look for valid openings to extend your job search? eHow contributor Naomi Vogel gives us the top 10 places where most people go to search for their next job opportunity. These web sites are trusted to not only list immediate openings for active jobs, but you can also post your resume online if you would rather have your next job find you!
  1. www.monster.com is "one of the oldest job sites on the web, with several hundred thousand jobs worldwide" and is free for job searching candidates.
  2. www.indeed.com is a collaborative job search website that incorporates several other job search websites and newspaper postings and is free for users.
  3. www.careerbuilder.com allows you to post your resume online, but also enables the more "passive" candidate to receive emails when jobs in your field have been posted, instead of posting a resume. According to PC Mag, CareerBuilder has been around since 1995 and has more than 23 million visitors a month! This website is free also.
  4. www.simplyhired.com sends you email updates regarding jobs linked to your location. This job search website compiles postings from other job search websites and newspapers.
  5. www.USA.gov is a government job search website that lists only jobs posted by the United States government.
  6. www.collegerecruiter.com is a job search website that lists only entry-level positions for recent college graduates. The job postings are nationwide and this is a free website.
  7. www.snagajob.com is unique in that it lists only hourly full-time and part-time jobs. If you are tired of paging through lists of degree-requiring jobs, then this site is for you.
  8. www.Yahoo.com job search engine is popular and used often. This website allows you to post a resume and tells you how often your resume has been viewed.
  9. www.Hound.com shows only postings listed on company websites, which diminishes chances of looking at duplicate postings.
  10. www.Jobster.com is very similar to the other job searching websites but makes it to the Top 10 list because of its large number of job postings and 24 job category choices. The Sirius Technical Recruiting Staff has their favorite places as well.

SAFETY TIPS
Now that 2012 is in full spring..we meant swing... Maintaining a safe workplace is important in keeping employees safe and productive in the workplace. Here are a few safety tips for a safe workplace.
  • Maintain a clean work area. Not only will you remove many hazards from a work area by keeping it clean, but you will also provide a more productive work environment for your employees.
  • Maintaining a clean work area can help prevent potential exposures to hazardous material and conditions which can be dramatically reduced simply by keeping the work area clean. And the benefit in employee productivity and morale is worth the effort even without the safety incentive!
  • Give clear work instructions. Make sure your employees know the right way to do what you expect of them. Don't just give them a list of things not to do.
  • Look at what people are actually doing and compare this to what is written in procedures. If the procedures are different from the actual practice, find out why.
  • Avoid unnecessary hazards. Look for new materials or equipment that can eliminate the hazards your workers are exposed to.
Sirius Doesn't Clown Around With Cancer
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported The American Cancer Society Chili Cook Off on March 3, 2012. Thanks to Brian Bennett for designing our awesome t shirt logo and Trademark Promotions www.trademarkpromotions.net for doing such a great job on printing our shirts, balloons and popcorn cups. Here are a few pictures to enjoy.
