Quick Tip from Signature Lives
|
Stop trying to be perfect! Don't be afraid to show your flaws. Remember imperfections are real and people (your employers, employees, friends and family) respond to REAL. Think about silk flowers, they always look good but they are fake. They don't smell or feel good. So be who you are - not what you think others want you to be. There is nothing more freeing than being the amazing person God created you to be. If you are always working on pleasing others you will lose who you are and live a life of misery. Live out loud and seize life!! By: Sandra Ritter www.signaturelives.com |

Let the good times roll! And that's exactly what happens in our "sweet home Alabama" during the Mardi Gras season! For many of our employees who work abroad, we wanted to share a little history on Mobile's Mardi Gras with you (where every Mobilian knows Mardi Gras originated!) The festival season begins on January 6th, the twelfth night after Christmas day, marking the date the three wise men visited baby Jesus in the manger. Mardi Gras Day (Fat Tuesday) is linked to the Christian season of Lent and is always the Tuesday prior to Ash Wednesday (or 47 days before Easter Sunday).

This magical season offers elaborate floats, parades, and fancy balls in addition to delicious foods and family fun on the streets of Mobile. "Throws" like beads, candy, moon-pies and peanuts are all a hit for the kids in Mobile! But Mardi Gras almost disappeared during the Civil War when festivities came to a halt, until a crazy reveler by the name of Joe Cain took to the streets in his wagon and revived the battered city after the war, rescuing the Mardi Gras tradition. |

Now a historic figure to Mobile's festivities, JOE CAIN DAY is celebrated every Sunday before Fat Tuesday, and locals take to the streets. More than 12,000 jobs are linked to the Mardi Gras season and it's estimated that on average $227 million are spent on festivities! That's a huge boost to our local economy! Several Sirius employees are members of Mardi Gras Societies and shared some of their pictures with us!

Tips from the Recruiting Department!
We know it can be frustrating when you are between jobs and trying to isolate your next position, so our recruiting department thought you might find some useful tips in this article.
Ways to stay Motivated During Your Job Search

Schedule a Job Search Time Table.
The hardest part of the job search process is staying motivated in your current job. Many job seekers loose drive and focus once they have decided to look for a job. There is no guarantee on the length of time it will take to find a new job. In the mean time you will need to maintain your current roles and responsibilities with the company you are currently employed by. In order to do so it is recommended that you prepare a strict time schedule to stick to. By assigning a specific time in which to run your job searches will encourage a positive job search attitude. Not only will you have allocated time according to your time management schedule to job hunt, but you will also remain focused in your current role.
Set a Time Limit to Your Job Search Sessions.
Stay motivated during your job search by assigning a set time limit in which to process your job searches. It is one thing to leave no stone unturned when looking for a new job, but don't exhaust all of your resources in one sitting. Set a time limit in which to run job searches during for example an hour or two hours a day to run searches. It is not in quantity of job searches where you will find your dream job, but rather through quality job searches. Stay motivated and avoid job search burn out by running quality job searches during a focused time period.
Follow Up with Your Recruiter for Further Encouragement.
Once you have applied to a position the one thing sure to squash your job search motivation is wondering about your results. In order to avoid having all focus removed from your job search drive, after five working days from application follow up with your recruiter. Also, suggest a possible date when you would be available to meet the employer for a job interview. By practicing a follow up strategy with all of your job applications, you are guaranteed to maintain your job search motivation.
Manage Your Job Search Stress Levels.
Job hunting is not an easy task for any job seeker. Staying motivated during this time is probably the hardest part of the job search process. Stress and motivation is like oil and water; they just don't mix. In order to maintain any form of drive focus and motivation, you stress levels need to be managed. When trying to maintain a positive outlook when searching for a job, you need to eliminate stress from your vocabulary. By exercising, a healthy diet and a reliable form of stress outlet, you will maintain the motivation required to keep hunting for a great job. Once stress has possessed you, a positive attitude and sustained job search drive is impossible. Eliminate unnecessary stress and as quoted by the book, "don't sweat the small stuff".
Use Your Job Applications To Keep You Motivated.
Keep a record of each job application you make when looking for a new job. Use this list of leads as a motivator during your job search. By referring back to the leads you have pursued, not only will you be motivated by your effort, but you will also have a comprehensive list to refer to when contacted.

Safety DOES Matter!
| |
While most of us work in an office environment and rarely find ourselves in the midst of "work danger", we feel it's important to bring to light the simple things that can lead to injury or mishaps at work. Many work related WC claims are associated with minor injuries, so please look over the "common sense" safety tips below and take extra time when needed:
Are you reading, texting or talking on the phone while walking through the halls (or in the car!)? Watch where you are walking and keep your attention in front of you at all times. If not, you may run into something or someone! Yep, it's happened! (And also make sure the area around you and your desk is free of clutter and wires to avoid a tripping hazard for you or someone else.)
Did you close the file drawer so you won't injure your legs? Yep, it's happened!
Did you wear proper shoes for the rain to help prevent an injury? Yep, it's happened! If the weather outside is bad, take extra caution when entering the building (or even your house). Wet floors mean slick surfaces and nasty falls. Being aware of the simple things around us can increase our safety awareness and overall well-being. Be careful out there!

Staffing Projections Looking Good for 2011
| | In a year-to-year comparison on information released by the American Staffing Association (ASA), staffing employment showed steady gains and was 12.2% higher than February of last year. BLS noted that job growth in the services sector was largely in employment services (29,000), most of which is temporary help. "ASA members report that demand continues to increase across all sectors and in all parts of the country," says Richard Wahlquist, ASA president and chief executive officer. In a Staffing Industry Analysts report, projections also concur that the forecast for engineering/design staffing will accelerate to 11% growth in 2011. Staffing Industry Analysts also project that in 2012 the engineering staffing market will surpass its 2008 peak of $7.3 billion. |
