of wood to build and maintain a bright, warm campfire. But what if there isn't much firewood available, you want to stay warm and  also be able to see in the dark? One possibility might be to make a log candle.
The actual construction technique is simple: All you need is a log and a saw. Check out the story and video!

Next week, my daughter goes back to school and I start back to work at Central Oregon Community College. It looks like the summer camping season is just about over for me.
But it was a good summer, and I went out a good bit.
I learned some new wilderness skills, got certified in Wilderness First Aid for Boy Scout leaders and practiced some outdoor survival techniques I already knew.
Hunting season and winter deep snow camping is coming, so there is a lot to look forward to.
Make the best of the the remaining warm weather!

Make a fishing lure from a kitchen spoon
spoon lure One of the most useful, and  effective fishing lures is the common spoon.
As the name implies, the spoon fishing lure is shaped like a spoon you eat with. The raw material is easy to find: Old culinary spoons of various sizes can be found everywhere, and the other needed items can be bought at any sporting goods or craft store store. Try a Carolina Rig for survival fishing
What's a good rig for beginners to catch fish with? My vote goes to the Carolina rig, a simple, effective setup that anyone can use.

The Carolina or slip-sinker rig relies on  a sliding slip sinker, swivel and snelled hook.

Set-up is simple: to learn how to use it, click on Carolina Rig.
