Survival Origami: Who would have though the art of paper folding would have an application to preparedness or wilderness survival? IMHO aluminum foil is a multi-purpose tool, and there are several applications it can be used for. This folding technique is certainly nothing I created, but is a fun way to teach a survival skill. Click on survival origami to learn how to use this.

This is the time of year when I'm tired of winter here in Central Oregon, but it's too early for spring. The best thing to do, then, is take a desert hike. My 11-year-old Lab, Belle, and I ventured out into the Badlands Wilderness Area last weekend, and as usual, the desert and outdoors were magnificent. But it never ceases to amaze me how some people can be out there in all that natural beauty and trash it. Here is a quick video I did about an old dump site Belle and I found while going cross country. It's also a reminder to wear sturdy hiking boots! I picked up several of the cans, and the broken glass, and took a GPS waypoint. I will return at some point with my Boy Scout friends and we will clean that mess up. Check out the new store, and everybody have a great week! (And please like us on Facebook!)

Dutch Oven Rabbit and Broccoli |
Many hunters start out pursuing some small game species such as rabbits and squirrels. These animals provide a challenge, as well as fine eating. But the hunt isn't over when the animal is bagged. The best is yet to come if there is a good plan for cooking the meat. Click on Dutch Oven rabbit recipe to read a tasty recipe that can be cooked outside in a Dutch oven..
