At Lazarus House we hear many stories of how
our programs have permanently changed the lives of people in need. Through your generous donations we are able to provide our neighbor's with food, shelter, clothing and the hope needed to continue the struggle toward success. Below are the stories of two guests and the staff who, with your support, are helping them move out of poverty . . . one person at a time.

The people I teach at Lazarus House are some of the most hard-working, driven and upbeat people that I have ever met. They want to improve their lives, support their families and be good role models for their children. I really love their energy and enjoy watching my students regain their self-esteem as they fulfill their goals!
Kathy Morales, a student in our Food Preparation and SafeServ Certification Program from May-October, 2011 is a single mother raising three children. She came to Lazarus House interested in job training and improving her English language skills and was excited to learn about the food program. Kathy did an externship in the kitchen at the Wyndham Hotel and was offered a full time position at its completion. Paula Mackey, Director of HR at the Wyndham offered, "Kathy is doing wonderfully and I would be happy to hire anyone from your food program." Kathy is grateful to have a job and steady paycheck and is now finally able to afford an apartment of her own with her children.

A single mother of two young children found herself homeless and is currently staying at the Emergency Shelter. She recently received a car that was donated to Lazarus House from the Village Automotive Group. When given the key she tearfully exclaimed, "Oh my God! I have a car and I can get to work now; thank you!" Without transportation she was going to lose her position at a hospital in Boston. This young mother also attends Roxbury Community College as a full-time nursing student.
Last week she received an acceptance letter to Chestnut Hill Housing Authority in Boston and is looking forward to the move with housewarming gifts she received from our in-kind donors. The mother was very grateful for all the support she received throughout her stay at Lazarus House and is looking forward to beginning this new journey in her life!
