The need for food is critical, your help will impact the lives of more than 1,500 people in this area
"This week during the food pantry distribution I was approached by a woman with a look of desperation and tears in her eyes. In her hand, a resume and a request to help her husband find a job," reflected Ken Campbell, Lazarus House Food Coordinator. "He had been laid off a few months ago and now their situation is desperate. There is no money for food, no medical insurance for her recently diagnosed need for dialysis and with young children to care for, no alternatives. These people are living day to day not knowing where they will find their next meal." At Lazarus House Ministries, Inc. the situation is also both extraordinary and critical! We too face not knowing where we will find food for our "family". Each Wednesday, after the distribution of food to the community, our pantry shelves are empty. With summertime donations down and the number of hungry people who need food doubling, restocking the shelves has become an almost impossible challenge. We currently serve more than 450 families weekly at our food pantry, impacting the lives of more than 1,500 men, women and children each week in the Greater Lawrence area. How can you help? The need for food is critical! Please consider donating one or more bags of groceries to our food pantry; if you are unable to purchase food we would also welcome a financial donation to our emergency food fund. We also ask for your prayers to help us feed people in a community in crisis. Together we can feed our hungry brothers and sisters! Let us end hunger next door: One bag of food, one dollar, one child, one family at a time! If not us, who? If not now, when?
I thank my God for you and for your willingness to stretch with us to serve. With a grateful heart, Bridget Shaheen, Executive Director
P.S. A special thanks to those who were able to respond to our request for food in July. |
