Things are hitting high gear post the Jeff Glover Seminar and as we are heading towards March and the beginning of tournament session - The Revolution on March 12, in Tacoma, and Pan-Ams March 24 - 27, in Irvine, CA.

For those looking to get tournament preparation / rounds, the best times to train are as follows:

  • Thursday, BJJ 4 at 7:30 pm - tournament drills and game-planning
  • Saturday, Open Train at 11am - rounds, drills, and conditioning
The time to win a tournament is in the weeks and months prior to the tournament. These training sessions are open to everyone who wants to push themselves and challenge themselves via competition.

Also, save the date. Professor Saulo Ribeiro will be returning to Five Rings May 20 - 22. He will be doing a public seminar on Saturday, May 21. You don't want to miss it! ! !

Jeff Glover Seminar - January 29, 2011
Highlights: Great movement, Riding the Ball, Deep Half Guard, D'Arce Chokes, 50/50, and Inspiring

Jeff spent three days at Five Rings Jiu Jitsu, January 28 - 30, sharing his interpretation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Friday, he taught a smokin' group class to the Five Rings crew.

Saturday's public seminar sold out with over 40 participants - including seven Northwest black belts and five brown belts. It was an amazing day of deep half guard, D'Arce series, 50/50 technique, and mind-blowing flow drills and smooth movement.

Wow ... the weekend was FULL of great technique, great movement, great training. Folks enjoyed the training and the perspective on the sport. Jeff is a great coach and super cool to hang out with.

Academy Celebration - Tons of Fun and Good Times

On Saturday January 15th Five Rings Jiu Jitsu held a party to celebrate both the beginning of a new year and the completion of our first year as an academy.

gym_celebration_1The premise was great but the takeaway was so much more.  The evening was a testimonial to what we have all grown in one short year. The scene was that of a gym far more senior, and it was amazing to be a part of.  Around 80 people sharing an incredibly thoughtful array of great tasting foods, warm conversation and camaraderie with those they consider friends, training partners or even family!

Looking around at the family of friends we've established and the level of jiu jitsu practitioners flourishing on our mats in just a year ... it is really fantastic.  The list of accomplishments we've achieved is impressive.
