Xande Seminar A GREAT day of training with 2x Absolute World-Champion | |
Greetings!
With the coming of September and the beginning of the school year, things at Five Rings are in high gear. Our Juniors program is blowing up, folks are prep-ing for upcoming tournaments (Tuesday night tournament rounds have had 20 - 25 athletes consistently), and we had the great fortune to have Xande Ribeiro spend the weekend with us and share his perspective of Jiu Jitsu.
Looking forward to October, we have a lot coming - the Oregon Open tournament, Juniors Saturday Camp, and Ninja Night.
Also, we've been making a big push to improve our online presence. Be sure to take a moment and see all the features on our gym site (www.5rjj.com) and our members site (www.5rjj.com/members).

Xande Ribeiro Seminar Report: GREAT STUFF! ! !
|

Five Rings Jiu Jitsu hosted 2x BJJ Absolute World Champion / 4x Heavy Weight Champion Xande Ribeiro on Friday, September 10, and Saturday, September 11.
Head Coach Tom Oberhue has been training with Xande for over two years now, but this was the first time Xande had come to Five Rings Jiu Jitsu in Portland, Oregon. It was a FANTASTIC weekend.

Here are some of the Highlights: - Gyms represented: Five Rings Jiu Jitsu, Foster Jiu Jitsu, Mata Leao Combat Sports, Seaside BJJ, Northwest Martial Arts, Touch M Up, Gracie Techniques
- It was an international seminar - with JT and crew traveling from Vancouver, BC
- Over 15 people did semi-private training with Xande on Friday | 35 participated in the Gi session | 18 in the No-Gi session on Saturday
- Xande was very welcoming with questions from the groups ... always wanted to help people out
- Four hours of solid techniques covered on Saturday - guard recover skills, sweeps from guard, pressure from guard top, back attacks from cross-sides top, ... just to name the big rocks. Tons of detail that helps tighten up the game.
