June 8: Destination Downtown Sebring Bridal Extravaganza
Held the 2nd Friday each month, Sebring's Downtown comes alive with the unique and enjoyable monthly Destination Downtown Walk.  Celebrate each month shopping, dining & strolling around the Downtown area from 5-8 p.m. www.DestinationDowntownSebring.com.

June 8: Haitian Art Exhibit Reception at Highlands Art League & MOTA
Highlands Museum of the Arts (MOTA) is the venue for a dazzling display of Haitian Drapo, a traditional folk art of sequined and beaded temple flags from the collection of Butler H. Smith, Jr. and Betty Ford-Smith.  More than 50 flags range in size and subject, from saints to snakes to mermaids, all hand-stitched and completely embellished with the tiny seed beads and shimmering sequins that define the art form.  MOTA will host a reception on Friday, June 8, from 5-8 p.m., with a presentation by Betty Ford-Smith on the history and symbolism of the artwork.  The exhibit is on display through July.

June 11-15: Highlands Art League's "Painting Furniture & Finds" Summer Kids Art Camp

June 11-15: Children's Museum of the Highlands Discovery Camp: Florida Adventures
Kids will learn about their state and find out about different places in Florida they've never been to before.  For elementary age children, this camp is from 9-5  each day; limited to 25 kids; taught by certified teacher; $75/student/week. June 17: Heartland Triathlon
The sixth annual Heartland Triathlon will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Sebring City Pier Beach. The adult triathlon will kick off on June 16 with a welcome party from 5-8 p.m. at Majestic Cove. June 26: "What's Up Downtown?" Meeting
The Sebring Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will host its monthly "What's Up Downtown?" meeting on Tuesday, June 26 at 5:30 PM at GB's Ladies and Men's Formal Wear on the Cirlce.  These monthly "What's Up Downtown?" meetings are open to the public.  Anyone interested in Downtown Sebring is encouraged to attend.

June 30: The Amazing Race for the Children's Museum
Forty teams of two will compete for prizes by following clues, navigating detours and roadblocks all to reach one final destination somewhere in Highlands County.  Each team must pay $100 to compete, and team members must be at least 16 years of age.  Register at the Museum by June 22.  Check in day of event at 10:00 AM.  Lunch and dinner provided.  Call (863) 385-5437 or visit www.ChildrensMuseumofHighlands.com.

Summer is here!  And it's a great time to be in summer camp Downtown Sebring.  Both the Children's Museum of the Highlands and the Highlands Art League are hosting week-long summer day camps June-August.

Bridal Fashion Show This Friday During Destination Downtown Sebring
 
bridal show On behalf of Downtown Downtown Sebring, GB's Ladies & Men's Formal Wear will present a Bridal Fashion Show in Circle Park from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 8 in Downtown Sebring's Circle Park.  The event will feature formal wear for brides, bridesmaids, mother-of-the bride gowns and tuxedos.  Intermission music will be provided by A Premier Entertainment.  Bring lawn chairs and enjoy the beautiful fashions in Downtown Sebring.  

Destination Downtown Sebring shopping includes more than 25 stores, boutiques, galleries, eateries and more that will stay open late during this special event.  Food vendors will also be open around the Circle Park and near Sadie Kahn Park, next to Linda's Books.

Several Downtown Sebring merchants are offering incredible deals and discounts during this  Destination Downtown Sebring event, which used to be referred to as Gallery Walk.  Visit local businesses, enjoy refreshments and snacks and stroll the charming Historic Downtown Sebring District. Highlands MOTA Features Haitian Art Display

haitian art Highlands Museum of the Arts (MOTA) is the venue for a dazzling display of Haitian Drapo, a traditional folk art of sequined and beaded temple flags from the collection of Butler H. Smith, Jr. and Betty Ford-Smith.  More than 50 flags range in size and subject, from saints to snakes to mermaids, all hand-stitched and completely embellished with the tiny seed beads and shimmering sequins that define the art form.  Vibrant with reflection, the flags are by turns reverent, playful, uplifting, mysterious, political and spooky. Several of the displayed flags are featured in the book "Spirits in Sequins" by Nancy Josephson. MOTA will host a reception on Friday, June 8 from 5-8 p.m., with a presentation by Betty Ford-Smith on the history and symbolism of the artwork.  The exhibit will be on display through July.
 
The Highlands Art League's (HAL) Yellow House Gallery & Gift Shop will also feature a Haitian theme at their June 8 Artists' Reception (5-8 p.m.) with paintings, beaded bottles and more also loaned by the Smiths. The studio artists and HAL's member artists regularly change the displays throughout the Yellow House, and the 2nd Friday Destination Downtown Sebring openings continue to be a popular event, free to the public with live music and refreshments served.
 
MOTA's presentation of this Haitian exhibit is a part of the Journey Stories project.  Journey Stories is part of Museum on Main Street , a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and State Humanities Councils nationwide. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the U.S. Congress.

 DATE CHANGE: CRA Sponsoring Computer Training Class for CRA District 
Are you a Downtown Sebring merchant, computer class business or organization interested in improving your computer skills so you can discover ways to better organize and market your business?  The Sebring CRA is coordinating a Computer Skills Training Class in conjunction with South Florida Community College for Monday, Aug. 6 from 5:30-8:45 PM.  Attendees will learn Email Basics, Graphic Design and Email Marketing Tips, and only half of the class fee ($22.50) as the CRA will pay for the balance.
