Hello to All!
The deadline for ordering all Showcase costumes has come and passed, which means we are in full swing towards the Spring Showcase! Classes have started their dances, and the excitement will continue to build until we reach June! This week each class will try on their Showcase costumes so we can make any necessary alterations and preparations for those to be taken home the last weeks of classes. Please note, to make sure our youngest dancers don't feel left out, we try a costume on each one of them, even if they won't be participating. If you would prefer us to not try a costume on your child because they won't be in the Showcase, please let your child's teacher know prior to their class beginning this week.
Here at New Vision, we value the progress of our dancers as much as we value the end result. Classes will continue under their usual structure, with only the last portion of class being dedicated to Showcase choreography. Realizing not everyone is participating in the Showcase, all students will be included in learning the choreography. We feel learning dances, and mastering them is an important part of our curriculum. As dancers this is an essential skill, and we hope you and your dancer will also recognize the benefits that come from learning an entire routine.
Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns; we want to ensure you are having the best dance experience possible.
Heather, Lynn and Bradian

Showcase Dress Rehearsal Saturday, June 16th - Century High School Auditorium
Showcase Dress Rehearsal Schedule has been posted! Please be sure to stop by the front office to check your child's dress rehearsal times, and to put them on your calendar! All Showcase dress rehearsals will be held in the Century High School Auditorium, and will take place at various times on Saturday, June 16th. If you need any help reading over the schedule, feel free to ask the front desk!
Dress Rehearsal Participation is mandatory in order to participate in your Showcase. New Vision's dress rehearsals are set up to run like our performances, and we strive to have the dancers at the dress rehearsal for the shortest time possible. The rehearsal is a vital time for both the students and the back-stage workers. This is the time set aside to get everyone familiar with the workings of a show, and dressing rooms. We also like to give each class time onstage to become comfortable with it; this is especially beneficial for our youngest dancers! Please mark your child's dress rehearsal time on your calendar now, so there isn't a conflict later! |
Showcase Corner June 16th-23rd @ Century High School New Vision Dance Center works to put on a successful Showcase to cap off each year of dance! We create a fun and safe environment for our students to shine and perform in a theater atmosphere. If you are unable to participate this year, we encourage you to come and watch a show to see what it is all about; for those of you who will be performing, we are looking forward to another excellent show thanks to your amazing talent!Pre-Sale Ticket Orders will be available on Monday, April 2nd in your Showcase packet. Pre-sale orders are filled on a first come, first serve basis. All seating for the Showcase performances will be reserved to help alleviate the congestion at the time doors open. Pre-sale ticket orders must be turned in before Saturday, April 28th, and will be available for pick-up starting Thursday, May 10th at the Front Desk. Please be sure to check which show(s) your dancer will be performing in; each class only performs in one show during the week! If you have any questions regarding tickets, feel free to call the Front Office at 503.693.6166 or email Miss Bradian.
Showcase Costumes are being tried on this week; March 5th - 10th. We try costumes on in class to take care of any necessary alterations in plenty of time before the show! Please send your dancer to class this week in a leotard and either tights or bike shorts (boys are fine in a tight fitting shirt and shorts or pants). We cannot clog up the bathrooms with students trying on costumes, so to ensure the perfect fit, it is important they are tried on over tight fitting clothing. Costumes will be handed out to take home the last few weeks of classes. Please direct any costume related questions to Miss Lynn.
Showcase Information Packets will be available in the Front Office starting Monday, April 2nd. These packets contain all the important information you need for your child's Showcase including: DVD, Photo, Pre-sale Ticket, T-shirt, and Trophy Order Forms in addition to a dress rehearsal schedule and show line-up. Also included are all the rules and guidelines for spectators and dancers; be sure you don't forget to pick your's up! Showcase Performance Fees will be charged on your April billing statement. As stated in the General Information Handbook, "Our year-end dance showcases are very special opportunities for your dancer to "shine". On April 1st a showcase fee of $35 will be charged to all participating dancers. This fee helps defer the cost of building use, janitor services, administration and staffing for the event. Ticket sales alone do not cover the cost of such a large, professional production. NVDC has a 99% student participation rate in this event. Fees are non-refundable". |
Senior Spotlight!
Sarah Holloway
When did you start dancing & why?
"I started dance when I was 6. I originally took classes from Helen Wick Walters and in middle school I tried theater and choir and realized I still missed dance and that I was serious about it so I transferred to New Vision."
What is your favorite style of dance?
"Contemporary is by far my favorite style of dance. Contemporary choreography is the only time that I really feel like I become a part of the music. I feel like there is music, which is the feeling, and then the lyrics direct the feeling, and dance is supposed to express both the lyrics and the feeling while painting the picture. I love Jazz, Ballet, Tap, and Hip Hop but I feel like those are more performances or outlets for the dancer, whereas contemporary is just translation and expression for the music. I guess I just feel contemporary is more out of body than other styles, I love the feeling of being the music rather than trying to direct it."
What are your plans after graduation?
"When I graduate from Hillsboro High School, I will be going to Brigham Young University majoring in Dance and minoring in Voice and Musical Theater. I also hope to work as a Disney Princess sometime within the next 3 years. YAY. The ultimate goal is to own my own dance studio but to more importantly teach dance classes, so anything that gets me closer is awesome."
What is your most memorable dance moment?
"My most memorable dance moment has to be from 2009 when Company went to Disneyland. Now to understand why this is so memorable, you have to understand what "Disneyland" means to me. I am literally obsessed. I have to have princess everything including my 18th birthday cake, my bags, yes I even have a Princess lunchbox as a senior in high school and I scream every time my parents tell me we get to go to Disneyland and most of the time I cry out of excitement. SO, not only was the mini lesson at Disneyland AMAZING, but we got to perform on the Disneyland stage. Literally a dream come true right? Well during our classy tap routine I attempted to do a batama and I landed on my buttock. I was mortified and to this day I am scarred. My first performance at Disneyland, and I land on the ground and THAT is my most memorable dance moment."
