Sally Ryan, municipal historian for the City of New London, will teach a six-week series on New London history. The series will be presented on Mondays beginning September 12 in the Community Room. Each lecture will be given  twice, from 2- 4 pm and again from 7 - 9 pm. This series is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. The library  is launching a book club for Romance lovers!  Join fellow romance fans for dessert and discussion. Bring a favorite romance book and suggestions for future reads. Refreshments will be served. 

 

  

Young Adult  Readers' Circle

YA .....not just for teens anymore!   

  

Young Adult novels contain some of the most original & well-crafted writing in Contemporary Fiction.

 

Join YA lovers of all ages for a kick-off  by Prof. Lisa Rowe Fraustino from Eastern Connecticut State University.      

 Fraustino is the author of "Ash: A Novel", named an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults, as well as other titles for young readers and adults. The evening will begin with an overview of the current boom in young adult literature, followed by a discussion of "Feed", by M.T. Anderson.  Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.   

Bring ideas for future books to read as a group. Refreshments will be served.

A menu from a local restaurant is also at the Circulation Desk.  Please pre-pay for  your supper selection and leave the money at the Circulation Desk before October 6 at 1:00 p.m. The food  will be delivered to the library at 5:30.  Bring  your own meal  if you prefer. Drawing for Absolute Beginners can provide the foundation tools and understanding necessary to draw successfully. Each 2 hour class will build on the previous class through simple, effective drawing exercises, in-class drawing projects and exercises for your own home study. Hispanic Heritage Film Festival 

Latin Music USA (Two nights)

Tuesday, September 27 and Wednesday, September 28

6:30 - 8:30  pm 

  

Features stories of some of the most memorable Latin music artists, from salsa to Latin jazz to the new generation who infuse rock, R&B, and even rap into their music,  

creating whole new genres.  

Includes how Latin music also influenced some of the music of the Motown era, the '70s, and the Latin pop explosion of today.   

Light refreshments will be served.

Afterschool Project ASPIRE.

Build your own paper airplane and then compete against other kids to see whose plane flies the furthest.  Paper and instructions provided. Children must be able to use scissors and work independently.
Participants should be able to use scissors and follow simple directions!

Book Sale continues in the BOOK NOOK  

in the main Reading Room.  

There is  a  great selection  

of recent

 hardcover fiction by popular authors.

 

Also browse nonfiction books, including history, biography, cookbooks, travel and good quality paperback books   for $1.00.   

 

In addition there are  

  some selected paperbacks on a table at the lower level entrance of the library for the bargain price of 50cents.

 

 
The Friends of the Library provide many services to the library, including  the popular  Museum Passes for free or discounted admission to area museums.
