Public Library of New London to Hold Literary Speed-Dating Event

New London, CT

April 25, 2011

The Public Library of New London announced today that it will host a speed-dating event for book lovers between the ages of 21 and 35. The event will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011, from 6:30 to 8 pm in the Community Room in the library at 63 Huntington Street.  Single young adults are encouraged to attend.

Speed-daters will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with other book lovers before being paired up for a series of five-minute conversations.  Refreshments will be served, and the library is encouraging participants to bring a book with them to help break the ice.  Speed daters could bring their favorite book, a book that they feel best represents them, or the last book they read. There is no fee for this event.

Similar speed-dating evenings have been organized at libraries across the country in an effort to encourage more young people to check out the resources at their local public library. The Public Library of New London now has wireless printing and patrons can print high quality  black and white or color copies directly from their laptop computers. Free eBooks can also be downloaded from the library collection.  The library recently doubled the number of computers for the public to use, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut.

For more information or to register, please call Suzanne Maryeski at 860-447-1411, ext. 5.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
