For children's events click here. Shorebirds of Connecticut Wed., February 16 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Did you know that winter is the best time to look for waterfowl off the coast of New London? Many ducks that spend the summers in the Arctic spend their winters off our coast - Brandt geese, Eiders, Mergansers and many more. The experts from Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center will teach you how to identify these shorebirds. This event is perfect for the whole family! MONDAYS: Fun With Nature Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Mondays, February 14, 28 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Target Audience: Grades K-5 Have fun learning about nature. Programs will be held in the Children's Activity Room downstairs.
TUESDAYS: Arts and Crafts Tuesdays, February 15 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Materials and instructions for various crafts that can be completed within one hour. Children should be able to use scissors and drawing implements or bring an adult to assist them. Come and see what you can create! Programs will be held in the Children's Activity Room downstairs.
WEDNESDAYS: Fun with Science Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut Wednesdays, February 16 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Hands-on learning experience at the library.

All materials are supplied free of charge. No need to register unless you are bringing a large group of children. ALL SATURDAY PROGRAMS ARE 2 - 4 p.m. February 19 - Make Peanut Butter & Pine Cone Birdfeeders George Washington Carver, a black scientist, invented peanut butter. Since February is Black History month & National Wild Bird Feeding month, why not feed the birds peanut butter? Pine cones, peanut butter and seeds supplied by the library. And -- enjoy a peanut butter cookie yourself. Thank you George Washington Carver!!! February 26 - Lego Fun Are you a creative engineer? Come show us what you can do with Legos. (4th Saturday of every month) March 5 - Get Ready for Mardi Gras String some beads for a Mardi Gras necklace. March 12 - Come Enjoy the Green Make a collage using papers with various shades of green. March 19 - Spring Equinox - Celebrate the coming of Spring! Plant a seed, take it home and watch it grow! March 26 -- Lego Fun Are you a creative engineer? Come show us what you can do with Legos. The library will be closed February 21, 2011, in observance of Presidents' Day.
It has been busier than ever! Do you know that more than 10,000 people visit the library each month?
Last year there were 387 programs sponsored by the library. In addition, 285 meetings of community groups were held here.
Tax forms now at the library. The 1040 booklets have arrived, along with the 1040, 1040EZ and 1040A forms.

After-school programs for school-aged children are held every day at the library at 4:00 p.m.

Ongoing Book Sale There is a selection of hard cover books in good condition in the downstairs lobby for only $2 each.
Paperbacks and older videos are located upstairs, near the copy machines, at bargain prices. All sales benefit the Friends of the Public Library of New London.
