This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

How would you describe one or more of the "guests" you've personally entertained in your guest house, guests unbidden?
No kidding. How might our wisdom and understanding be insufficient to anticipate the merits of unbidden guests? Mightn't we tend to render superficial judgments of them?
Though we deny their presence, though we pretend they're not visiting, does the illusion of being in control at the Front Desk, in reality, prevent access to unbidden guests?
Mightn't it be true that when we deny unbidden guests a room, we reject the life and gifts those guests unexpectedly bring to our guest house?
How might guests unbidden richen the experience of all visitors to our guest house?
How does our quest to maintain the illusion of control, not only deny reality, but inhibit mystery and wonder? What's the quality of life void of mystery and wonder?
