It's difficult
to love the immortal...

It's difficult to love the immortal...

No kidding. It's difficult to fully love that which is unseen and presumably invulnerable. Although the ubiquitous presence of death shadows us, oppresses us, taunts us, there is a way in which it rouses us to protect, to cherish, to nurture--that is, to love--the immediate and vulnerable objects of our affection. In truth, it appears to be human nature not to tender love, not to render value, to that which is not ours to lose.

Ironically, then, death teaches us to live and to love more fully and with greater urgency.

There was one, however, whose origins are from long ago--indeed, from eternity--who for our sake assumed mortality, who revealed himself and made himself vulnerable. As scripture attests: "Though he was God, he did not regard equality with God as something to cling to. Instead,
he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
he was born as a human being. When
he appeared in human form,
he humbled himself in obedience to God, and
he who could not die, died."

And thus Jesus revealed God to man--God in man--and through him...

it's possible to love the immortal.

How does your heart and mind react to the statement, "...death teaches us to live and to love more fully and with greater urgency"?

Jesus revealed God to man.
Mightn't it be said that, at the same time, Jesus revealed man to God?

What might Jesus' life and death have revealed about man to God?

Do you fear to live because you fear to die?

Do you fear to love because you fear to lose?

What's your takeaway? Because you can take it with you...
