Relationship Repair Guide...
Life in Christ is all about relationships. It should come as no surprise then that the breakdown of relationships can have a devastating affect on the families and fellowships of Jesus' apprentices. Here are ten tools and techniques to maintain and restore relationship among believers:

First
, understand that we all feel overworked and underappreciated.

Second, Undeniable Truth One: "The foremost [commandment] is, '...you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart [desire, passions], and with all your soul [inner man, character], and with all your mind [intellect, thoughts, emotions], and with all your strength [outer man, character].' The second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself'" [Mark 12:29-31]. It's all about relationship.

Third, Whether you are a counselor, you are being counseled, or simply a referee, ask yourself, "How is my relationship with God? Am I truly abiding in the word? Am I praying unceasingly? Do I practice the presence of God?" To put it biblically, reading begets meditation; meditation begets awe; awe begets aha!

Fourth, Undeniable Truth Too: "If someone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar" [1 John 4:20]. Perhaps the greatest gauge of our relationship with God is our relationships with other men.

Fifth, Undeniable Truth Three: "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another" [John 13:35].

Sixth, Paul urged apprentices to, "...make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus..." [Philippians 2:2-5].

Seventh, "What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you?" [James 4:1-3]. By the by...desires are transformed when we love God with all of our heart [i.e. desires]!

Eighth: Seven essential relationship truths plus one that is every bit as important: The conversation is the relationship...Never judge another by your own gifts...Never assume you know the motives of another [i.e. malignity...Think about how something will sound and impact before you say it...Listen to hear...If you know someone so well as to sum them up in one sentence, you do not know them well...Have you, personally, made sufficient deposits to support the withdrawals you are making...Ask yourself, "How's it working for you?

Ninth, The "duh" factor, described by Jesus in a verbal editorial cartoon: "And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye?" [Matthew 7:3-5]. Just askin': what prevents the two believers in this cartoon from drawing closer together?

Tenth, Lose yourself to find yourself [Matthew 16:25]. Never, never, never ask, "Hey, what about me?" It's not about you; it's about the Lord. Ironically, "me" will find its greatest fulfillment in serving!

Just do it! What would it take for you to create your own practical version of a "Love's To-do List" based upon 1 Corinthians 13?

Can you imagine transforming it from a "To-do List" to a "Ta-da List"!

Ask yourself, "How badly do I want it?"
