Just who do you think you are?
Three brief anecdotes, with interrelated learnings...

First anecdote...In my late teens and struggling with identity, I constantly "redefined" myself after the image of a newly discovered, best-yet, exemplar. Back in those days I often visited a respected, naturopathic doctor in Los Angeles. Much to my discomfort, I had few secrets from Dr. Havlic, who become as much a counselor and a friend as a physician. He understood my proclivity to reinvent myself every six months. Well, he didn't understand it, but he was aware of it. One day, with a wry smile, he told me, "Michael, if you insist on emulating someone else, the best you'll ever be is second best."

How much energy might you be expending, trying to be someone or something else? What's the cost? What are the benefits? What's the lie?

What would it look like for you to show up in life fully transparent, fully authentic?

Second anecdote...Calvin and Hobbes was a throwback comic strip published between 1985 and 1995. The strip featured the adventures, real and imagined, of Calvin--a six-year old boy described by his creator as "a little too intelligent for his age," with "no sense of restraint," and "not much of a filter between his brain and his mouth"--and Hobbes, Calvin's stuffed tiger. In one of my favorite escapades, Calvin created a Duplicator from a large cardboard box. Calvin's intention was to create a duplicate of himself to clean his room while he went outside to play. Calvin's clone spurned the chore and left the room to play outdoors. Hobbes the tiger observed, "He's a duplicate of you, all right," to which young Calvin replied, "What do you mean? This guy's a total jerk!"

Just checkin' in...How would you react were you to discover that the fully transparent, fully authentic you...shows up as a total jerk?

But, even if...what's possible?

Third anecdote...Cary Grant of Hollywood, USA notoriety--the former Archie Leach of Bristol, England obscurity--once mused, "Everyone wants to be Cary Grant. Even I want to be Cary Grant."

What's the Secret of Life underlying Mr. Grant's admission, "Even I want to be Cary Grant"?

Do you find it exhausting "being you," or is it liberating? What's the learning here?

So...just who do you think you are? Is your perception in alignment with who you were created to be?
