Three little words, one powerful pattern...
|
It's the common pattern of "Bondage...Deliverance...Reconciliation" It shows up throughout scripture. You can find it in the story of the Exodus, when all Israel was "baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea (1 Corinthians 10:2); it shows up when all believers are "baptized into Christ" (Galatians 3:27)...It's there in the story of David, around his tryst with Bathsheba; it's evident in Peter, around his denial of the Lord...It shows up in Jesus' teaching, as in the Parable of the Prodigal Son; it is, in fact, modeled in Jesus' death, resurrection and ascension to the Father...It's descriptive of redemption itself, of which Paul writes: "the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God' (Romans 8:21).
"Bondage...Deliverance...Reconciliation" Where else does it show up... in the days of the Judges...in the Babylonian Captivity?
Think about other events, other people, other teachings of scripture.
"Bondage...Deliverance...Reconciliation" Where has it shown up in your life...in your own narrative? Look closely; it doesn't always show up as desired or as expected.
What does bondage look like in your story?
How does deliverance show up-other than, "Make it go away!"?
What's possible with respect to reconciliation?
"Bondage...Deliverance...Reconciliation" How could this paradigm change the way we live, love, pray, and more?
No, seriously. What's possible?
"Bondage...Deliverance...Reconciliation" Is deliverance possible without first acknowledging bondage?
Deliverance without reconciliation--without restoration of relationship--is merely rescue. What possible distinctions separate "reconciliation" and "rescue"? (Cf. Luke 15:11-32 with Matthew 18:21-35.)
"Bondage...Deliverance...Reconciliation" Typically, in the lives of God's people--then and now--the pattern of Bondage, Deliverance, Reconciliation shows up as an endless cycle.
What would it take to put a "period" at the end of Reconciliation?
