Citynet-Built WDTV.com Web Site Wins TV Web Site of the Year from West Virginia Broadcasters Association

Designed by Susan Zorn of WDTV and built by our very own Joe Wolford. WDTV.com has won the WV Broadcasters Association's TV Web Site of the Year award!
WDTV

When Susan Zorn, Art Director for WDTV in Bridgeport, West Virginia started designing a new web site for her television station, she knew what she wanted; a web site packed with content, but organized and easy to navigate. On the back-end, she wanted a web site that was easy to update, fast to load content, stable and secure. With the level of sophistication and customization of her requirements, she turned to the web site development experts at Citynet.

Her experience with the project's lead developer, Citynet's Joe Wolford, exceeded all her expectations. "I sent Joe 236 emails in the course of building the WDTV.com web site, and he was always helpful and positive, and would say  "don't worry, I'll take care of it!"

Zorn continues, "for ease of use we went with no drop-down menus, Joe was great helping us make the best use of space. He  met every challenge we threw at him including administrating a huge video catalog, creating several specialized administrative panels to make updating the site super-fast and easy -  something critical for a news organization. All of the tools he created for us work just perfectly."

Citynet's Joe Wolford
, has developed many intricate and sophisticated web sites in his ten years as a software and multimedia developer with Citynet.  Wolford explains, "it was a challenging, yet fun, project.  The project required a custom Content Management System (CMS) built from scratch, tailored to the client's specific needs. It needed to be scalable to allow for the easy addition of future applications. Out-of-the-box Content Management Systems simply aren't that flexible."

He particularly likes the messaging function he created for the site; "text messages can be sent at the click of mouse from the CMS to alert users about weather conditions, traffic issues, school closing and much more". Wolford also says, "working with the WDTV staff was great.  The communication lines between us were open throughout the entire project and I think the end product is a testament to that.  It's always great to work with a client that is open to suggestions and will take a developer's ideas and suggestions into account."

Anthony Svingos
, who heads the Citynet Development Team from Citynet's corporate headquarters in Bridgeport, is pleased by the Best Web Site recognition from the West Virginia Broadcasters Association; "one of the great challenges in creating information-packed  and media rich web sites, is how to take all of those resources and make them easily navigated and viewed. Susan and Joe created a site that is so well thought out and easily accessible for viewers. It's great to know that an outside organization understood this, and rewarded WDTV for its vision and execution on such. " In addition, Svingos explains, "while we were busy making sure the  new WDTV.com web site met all of the station's criteria, Citynet and WDTV were also attentive to viewer's video needs. The WDTV.com site was designed to allow the vast majority of modern web browsers and mobile devices to view video - so whether people are on a PC, Mac, Android, or Apple device they'll be able to see what's going on in their community from nearly anywhere."

The new WDTV.com website makes use of some of the latest, cutting-edge, mobile friendly, technologies such as SMS (mobile texting), allowing the station to keep in touch with its viewers like never before. People can receive up-to-the-minute updates on breaking news, and critical information that viewers care about. Subscribing to these alerts is easy, and free - all that is  needed is a mobile phone number, an email address. Be sure to check it all out for yourself: www.wdtv.com
