Citynet Commercial Nominated for Emmy® Award

Citynet Shake Up Ad with Title Bar Citynet's latest TV commercial, titled "Shake Up" has been nominated for an Emmy®
by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS).

The commercial was produced by Morgantown's award-winning Pikewood Creative and is one of their two nominations for a 47th Annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Award (2011).  Pikewood's Daniel Pauley and Dan Lohmann each have one nomination in the commercial category this year.

In the midst of the telecommunications shake up in our region, Citynet wanted to communicate that our roots are here, always will be, and that we continue to grow and expand our services - and that Citynet is the only West Virginia owned telecommunications company still standing.

"With an important message like this, it only made sense to go with our long-time creative partner, Pikewood Creative," says Citynet Director of Marketing, Kristen Heiser. "They have a remarkable ability to truly listen to your goals, and incorporate your message into a finished product that never ceases to impress - as their growing stack of awards shows" says Heiser.

Pikewood Creative has built a solid reputation for creative excellence across the county, and has been recognized and awarded multiple times for their expertise.

Citynet is exceptionally proud of the outstanding creative efforts put forth by Pikewood and of this nomination.

The awards ceremony will be held July 30th in Louisville, Kentucky.

Citynet Partners with the Weirton Area Port Authority

"Middle Mile" Work to Benefit Much of Northern West Virginia

One of Citynet's latest projects is an exciting partnership with the Weirton Area Port Authority (WAPA).  The city of Weirton, West Virginia is strategically located along not only the Ohio River, but also along major railway facilities. It also has some of the best and least congested state highways in the country that connect to major interstate highways. Weirton is also only 30 minutes away from Pittsburgh International Airport. All of these make Weirton a transportation hotspot.

WAPA has applied for several federal grants for port security, maritime domain awareness, and FAA NextGen Air Transportation System. WAPA is working to extend and enhance their area's communication capabilities to become one of the more technologically advanced ports in the nation. These goals and programs will increase security and help promote efficiency.

In order to obtain such sophisticated communications systems, WAPA chose the outstanding technology services of Citynet.   According to Frank Boscarillo, Citynet's Chief Operating Officer"Citynet has been advocating the construction of a robust, open-access, high capacity 'Middle-Mile' fiber network that would put West Virginia on the core Internet backbone. This is an important project that will help us in achieving this goal."

Boscarillo has become very involved in the WAPA project and explained that Citynet, unlike many larger carriers, will give WAPA complete access to the fiber network.  This is paramount for the project.  "This network has to be secure, fast, private, and controllable,"  BJ DeFelice, President of the Weirton Area Port Authority, says. "The port appreciates Citynet's involvement with the NextGen Logistics Village project and Citynet's leadership on the Technical Working Group. Citynet's vision to build an open access 'Middle-Mile' network aligns closely with the goals of the Weirton Port."

Citynet is currently working with WAPA to design this 831-mile "Middle-Mile" network between the Northern and Eastern panhandles of West Virginia.  If WAPA is able to obtain the funds, Citynet will launch the construction of this network, which is estimated to take up to 30 months. This is a great opportunity for Citynet customers between Martinsburg and Weirton as they could eventually have access to much higher bandwidth at a more competitive price and it will be much more reliable.

Citynet's Design and Development Team is also working with the Port Authority to create a whole new corporate branding package that includes a completely new, information packed, interactive web site.

This is a great opportunity and Citynet is looking forward to the advancements that are to come.
