Greetings!
Governor CuomoSAGE Graphic Launches SAGE Commission Website

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced the launch of the Spending and Government Efficiency (SAGE) Commission's Web site to invite the public's participation in the process of modernizing and rightsizing state government, improving performance, increasing accountability and saving taxpayers' money.

The Web site,  www.governor.ny.gov/sage, allows the public to suggest ways to improve the efficiency and quality of government services. The submissions will be an integral component to the reform process. The site will also include listings of the SAGE Commission's public meetings and materials from the Commission's first meeting on April 25.

A Chance to Make Sure Children's Social and Emotional Wellness is in the Mix for New Affordable Care Act Grants

The U.S. Department of Health and Social Services (HHS) has announced the availability of over $100 million in funding for up to 75 Community Transformation Grants.

Consistent with the law, these grants will focus on five priority areas:

  1. tobacco-free living;
  2. active living and healthy eating;
  3. evidence-based quality clinical and other preventive services, specifically prevention and control of high blood pressure and high cholesterol;
  4. social and emotional wellness, such as facilitating early identification of mental health needs and access to quality services, especially for people with chronic conditions; and
  5. healthy and safe physical environments.

While the announcement language places a primary focus on physical health, we all understand the critical interrelatedness with children's mental health and well-being. And as we also know, it is that fourth priority area, (social and emotional wellness), that ties so many strands together. The ENGAGE team is rooting for winning proposals aiming for gains in children's social and emotional wellness.
