Time for glitz, glamour and gourmet!

Greetings!

It's all about glitz, glamour and fabulous parties! The Academy Awards is America's biggest movie event of the year. As Hollywood A-listers turn out for the Oscar event, you can hold a gourmet viewing party of your own that rivals those of celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck! Whether you're hosting an intimate evening with family or rolling out the red carpet in a formal affair, I'm pleased to suggest this award-winning menu.

To make the night even more fun, visit the official Oscars website where you can read more about the event and find printable ballots so you can play along and predict the winners.

Host your own award-winning event!

RedCarpetMake your Oscar event an award-winning evening! With this make-ahead menu, you won't miss a single moment of the red carpet spectacle or a single acceptance speech. Pace the evening by starting with cocktails and hors d' oeuvres. When you're ready for the main course, serve it casual buffet style. Of course, you need to wrap up the evening with a fabulous Oscar-worthy dessert. This menu and all recipes may be downloaded from our website at www.seasonedkitchen.com. This is a special menu just for the Oscars - while we have many fabulous recipes in our cookbook, you won't find these in "A Well-Seasoned Kitchen."

Cooking Tip: Use a quality zester for perfect lemon flavor

MicroplaneZesterWhen a recipe calls for citrus zest or a quick shave of a hard cheese, I turn to my Microplane Zester/Grater. It's so easy to use and one of the tools I don't cook without.

This Zester/Grater is perfect for zesting lemons and limes - it grates the zest without picking up the bitter white pith.
For hard cheeses such as parmesan, you'll get a nice, fluffy pile of cheese - perfect for Ceasar salads. And, it grates chocolate, too.

This grater is very sharp and comes with its own slipcover - ideal for avoiding cuts when you reach in your kitchen drawer. You can find this five-star rated Microplane Zester/Grater on Amazon.com.
Who is the Academy? And, who is Oscar?

WSKRecipesThe Academy Awards was founded in 1927 by 36 of the most influential men and women in the motion picture industry. The Academy is an honorary membership organization whose ranks now include more than 6,000 artists and professionals.

The Oscar is one of the most recognized trophies in the world. In 1927, MGM art director Cedric Gibbons designed a statuette of a knight standing on a reel of film gripping a crusader's sword. Los Angeles sculptor George Stanley realized the design in three dimensions. Of note, the five spokes of the film reel represent actors, directors, producers, technicians and writers. Since the initial awards banquet in 1929, 2,701 statues have been presented. Each is 13 inches tall and weighs 8 pounds. The award is actually named the Academy Award of Merit, but it is better known as the Oscar. The origins of the moniker aren't clear. A popular story has it that Academy librarian Margaret Herrick remarked that it resembled her Uncle Oscar. The name stuck and by 1939, the Academy officially adopted the nickname.

A cookbook that celebrates family and food

"A Well-Seasoned Kitchen" is a recipe treasury for all cooks who cherish creating delicious meals to nourish relationships with family and friends. The cookbook was written by Lee Clayton Roper and her mother Sally. The Claytons have long been known for effortless style and smart sensibility when it comes to home cooking and entertaining. So, when Sally began to suffer from the effects of osteoporosis and memory loss, it was natural for Lee to to engage her mother through memories of their shared times in the kitchen. The result of their effort is "A Well-Seasoned Kitchen," a cookbook of classic recipes for today's contemporary cook.

The hardcover cookbook includes 186 recipes, planning menus and helpful tips on 272 pages that feature delicious photos of some of Sally and Lee's favorite dishes. Renowned food photographer Laurie Smith, whose pictures have appeared in Saveur, Food & Wine and many other esteemed publications, shot the photos for "A Well-Seasoned Kitchen."
