Did you know that it is LEGAL to pray at school? Many people think this is not true, but it is! Our First Amendment grants us the ability to freedom of speech and although many argue that it violates a division of church and state, we need to know our rights so we can practice our faith in public - even at our schools. For information about your rights, go to
the Department of Education website. Each year, the youth groups from the churches in the Saline area gather at the SHS and SMS flag pole to pray before school. The event is called
"See You At The Pole". It was held on Wednesday, September 23rd. Last year, our EDGE youth group asked that we continue this event on a monthly basis - which we did. It was awesome! Over 20 kids showed up every month and prayed together before school.
Some of the MS staff were so impressed, that we initiated a chapter of the national organization,
Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This organization brings Christian students (you don't need to be an athlete to join) together to pray, build fellowship, and spread the Good News to others. Eighth grade math teacher, David Reeves has agreed to once-again head up this group if there is interest. EDGIES/Parents - please take this opportunity to help our faith grow in Saline Middle School and to allow our middle school youth to PRACTICE their faith EVERY DAY- the benefits are heavenly! Contact
Mr. Reeves for more information or to help get the program going again at SMS. (Note: There IS a FCA chapter at SHS that is well attended!)
