Free & open to everyone. Bring your blankets and pic-i-nic baskets & join the Conservancy worldwide in attempting to set a Guiness world record for the most people picnicking in a 24-hr period. Cool music thruout the day. Fun giveaways! Food, drinks & adult beverages available for purchase.
View scores of picnic tables purchased by local businesses, non-profits and individuals & adorned by local artists! We'd like to have a big turnout, and do our part to boost the numbers for the Conservancy's goal of 24,000 folks across the globe so please plan on coming. We'll have a blast!

Botanical Garden's Linn-Henley Lecture Hall at
6 PM this Thursday. The forum is open to the public. Mayor Bell will provide keynote remarks. A reception in the Banquet Room will immediately follow. OTM Democrats and members of other sponsoring or- ganizations may attend the reception to meet and greet our great candidates. Heavy hors d'oeuvres and assorted beverages will be provided. A Local Woman Reacts to a Bill Introduced in
Our Legislature by State Sen. Scofield (R)
Dear Senator Scofield,
The Birmingham News reported that you have proposed a bill in the Alabama Senate that would require a woman to undergo a transvaginal ultrasound when seeking an abortion. I have had a transvaginal ultrasound when I miscarried a baby at 10 weeks. I wonder, Senator Scofield if you have ever had a transvaginal ultrasound? No, I didn't think so. Many men like to talk about how this is not an invasive procedure. I am, however, qualified to testify that a transvaginal ultrasound is invasive, uncomfortable and to some degree, painful - and I was undergoing this procedure with consent. What you propose is for the government to invade a woman's vagina under government coercion. That is quite an odd proposal from a man whose party keeps claiming to want to get government out of our lives. I would suggest that the first step in that move would be to keep government out of our vaginas. Yes?
One other point, Senator Scofield, is that I am sure you and the other Republican men who like this idea are aware that Alabama has child support laws. In your quest to make a "fetus" into a "child" (and let's be honest, that is what this is about) you seem to have forgotten that a "child" in Alabama is entitled to health care and living support, from the father as well as the mother. The state is
obligated to find the father and recover from him his financial obligation. This is a state that lacks the funds for basic necessities. Are you telling me that you and other Republican men can find the state money to chase down every deadbeat dad of every fetus in this state? You don't even bother doing that with the many children we have living in poverty in Alabama already. If the Alabama Legislature pursues this bill, you had better lawyer up!
