Libraries Change Lives. Share Your Story!
Library users share how our Libraries help them:

"I homeschool my children. The libraries have been tremendous resources, which enriched my curriculum without busting my budget."  -- Barbara Denham

"I entered the WTKR "car contest" online every day at the library. I won a $100 gas card! It was an exciting experience
I wouldn't have had if the Library didn't offer two hours of Internet access every day to library members. Thanks for providing this wonderful service to Newport News citizens!" -- Shirley Martin

Thanks to those who have shared their stories. Email your story or fill out a card in the library. Name and contact information are optional.

We would like to know what you think of this new version and any suggestions or comments you may have.  Please give us your thoughts. Thank you, and we hope you enjoy exploring all of the free opportunities that your Library has to offer! And, please let us know if you have any questions about the new "Books & Beyond."

Patrons share their stories
Share Your Story programSeven community members stood, one by one, in front of an audience on June 6 at Main Street Library and shared their stories. From difficult childhoods to ghost encounters, each story offered a unique perspective and insight on the teller's life.
It was the culmination of "What's Your Story? Share It At Your Library!" the 2009 adult programming series.
In addition to performing their stories for the library audience, participants recorded their oral histories privately on a CD to take home and created collages based on their lives, courtesy of the Peninsula Fine Arts Center. Pictured is Mendel Williams, right, creating a collage with the help of PFAC volunteer Jacqueline McCormick. The program was sponsored by the Dr. Herbert H. Neisser Fund.
