NTD NEWS
June 9, 2010

Last weekend saw the DPOE office in Evanston filled with volunteers -- New Trier Democrats, Evanston Democrats and a number of other Democrats from neighboring areas -- all ready to go out on a rainy Saturday to contact "2008 first time voters" and get them to pledge to come to the polls again in November. It was a successful day, with volunteers bringing back pledge cards signed by voters who promised to come back to the polls this fall. The canvassing was fun and easy.

The strategy of reaching out to the Obama '08 critically important "first time voters" will be pursued into this summer and fall with canvassing starting at 10:30 am every Saturday morning from now on.  The New Trier Democrats will have a presence at the DPOE office and will be directing volunteers who want to canvass our New Trier neighborhoods. There will also be Monday night phone banks (at the DPOE office, 6 - 8:30 p.m.) with specific banks for New Trier Dems.  -- The Democratic Party of Evanston office is at 821 Chicago Avenue, just south of Main. at 10:30 a.m. Contact NTD coordinator Patrick Keenan Devlin for more info or to volunteer.

And speaking of November, one of the candidate's whose election is critically important is Alexi Giannoulias, candidate for U.S. Senate. Yesterday, he received endorsements from the Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters. Meanwhile, Alexi's Republican opponent, Mark Kirk, has been spending his time trying to explain his affliction as a serial "misrememberer." His most recent memory glitch seems have been inspired by the rally in front of his office on Monday made up of members of the 10 District's Reform Immigration for America group. This diverse group held a press conference to draw attention to Kirk's refusal (after over a thousand letters, hundreds of phone calls and a series of visits to his office) to meet with their leaders for constructive dialogue. He now has told the press that he has already met with their organization. But, he must be "misremembering," or maybe just imagining, another group from some far off place because he's never met with these actual constituents. The poor, poor delusional man.

On a more pleasant subject than Mark Kirk, don't forget the Bottle Shop Candidate Meet in Wilmette on June 17 (see below) for some wine and conversation with fellow Dems. Also, the Cubs Rooftop Party is still the hottest item on the NTD agenda. Our organization is hoping for a good turnout for this summer fundraiser. It's going to be a lot of fun -- and it's an incredible bargain.

Sunday June 20 -- Seats are still available for this important NTD summer fundraiser. Help the NTD organization while you enjoy a great Father's Day afternoon and the best bargain in Wrigleyville!*
