NTD NEWS
May 26, 2010

Campaigns for our NTD endorsed candidates are well underway. But even with the exceptional candidates we support, every race will be a tough one. The Republican Party seems to think they should expect a great victory in the fall.  But they are wrong. Especially if efforts like the one being launched jointly by Organizing For America (OFA), the Democratic Party of Evanston (DPOE) and our New Trier Democrats take hold.

DPOE President Toni Gilpin summed up the reason why it's so important that we reach out to potential voters this year in an email entitled: The Real Power Brokers - Let's Get 'Em.  -- "They're out there -- they demonstrated their might in 2008.  They can determine the winners in the next election.  And on Saturday, June 5th, we're going after them.
Who are these powerful people?  They don't all look the same -- some are young while others are senior citizens; some are African-American or Latino; some are young professionals and some are single moms.  But they have one thing in common: they're the people who cast their first vote ever to send Barack Obama to the White House.  They're 15 million strong across America, and there are tens of thousands in our area.  And if we want to advance the change we fought for in 2008, we need to get them back to the polls."

Toni's right. The votes are out there to ensure victory in the fall. It's up to us to locate them and bring them in. Starting on Saturday, June 5.
June 5 -- Kicks off a canvass of 2008 "First Time Voters" in the 10th District
The New Trier Democrats Politial Action Committee urges everyone receiving this NTD News email to devote some time on Saturday June 5 to launch a critically important project.

NTD members will be joining members of the Democratic Party of Evanston and Organizing for America on June 5 to participate in an exciting national event: Advancing Change/Vote 2010.

We'll be reaching out to those first-time voters, because they can deliver the margin of victory for Democrats in the 10th District this November Lt. Gov. candidate Sheila Simon will be with us, along with other Democratic candidates and elected officials.  But for this effort to succeed, we need you there. To sign up click here.

Canvassing begins at 10:30 a.m.
another shift begins at 1 p.m.
Meet at the DPOE office in Evanston --- 821 Chicago Avenue

We'll also have phone banking going on for those who can't join the canvassers.

This YouTube link underscores why reaching these voters is so important in turning back the right wing's effort to turn back the clock.

We'll be sending teams out into Evanston and into the 10th Congressional District, to engage with those first time voters.  We want them to know how much is at stake in this election, and how much their participation matters this time around.

Have any free time on Wednesday mornings?
Do you have a few hours on any Wednesday morning todonkey kicking volunteer in the NTD office?
You'll be welcomed on any Wednesday mornings between 10:00 am and noon.  Come every week?  Come every other week?  Come once a month?  Come when you happen to be free?  Come when we email you about a special need?  Please email pcsperling@comcast.net if you can help out at all and we will get back to you.  Thanks for your consideration.
The Daniel Biss campaign offers plenty of ways to get involved:

Walk with Daniel
any day of the week - every week.
Daniel is walking seven days a week now and always welcomes volunteers to walk with him.  Sign up for an afternoon and meet some voters. It's the most valuable volunteer position on the campaign. Please contact karen@danielbiss.com to get on the calendar.

Summer Interns: Have a daughter/son/neighbor's kid coming home from college or getting out of school for the summer? We can give them valuable experience volunteering on a campaign and keeping them away from the tv/computer.

July 4th Committee Chair or Co-chair: This is a biggie, but lots of fun. We need someone (or sometwo) to coordinate and plan the four parades we will be walking in on July 4th.  Includes lots of detail, time lines and almost gymnastic scheduling.

July 4th Committee Member: Help with above.

Event Volunteer: Help with planning and execution of fundraising and community events. Attention to detail and excellent communications skills needed.

Community Events: Research daily & newspapers, chambers of commerce, local community websites, etc. to find events or meetings of which we think Daniel should be aware. Can be done from home, office, Mexico.

Community Research: Research community groups that are in or have members/clients in the 17th District. This community outreach project involves contacting groups, introducing Daniel to them, and finding ways to meet their members.

Office Help/Mailings: Come on in and help with answering phones, preparing mailings, making phone calls, and whatever else needs doing that day.

By helping Daniel in whatever way you can, you'll be playing an important role in his victory this fall. Please contact karen@danielbiss.com or 847.329.1771 to volunteer.

And don't forget the party at Hot Doug's on June 6th (See the article above).
