The New Trier Dems Executive Committee

NTDO NEWS
May 19, 2010

Last Sunday,  over 100 people showed up on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to hear Governor Pat Quinn speak for nearly an hour about the problems Illinois faces and the initiatives he believes will help pull our state through this crisis to establish a solid foundation for new economic growth. He touched on many subjects: reforming our antiquated property tax system, cutting budget items without harming the most vulnerable citizens in areas such as mental health and child care, new reforms to public pensions that will save over $220 billion in the next generation, leading the way in high speed rail and public transit, devoting renewed efforts to make our school systems the best, and more. He then went on to answer a number of thoughtful and pointed questions from the audience for another half-hour. His positive and plain-spoken approach to what can be done to get us out of the mess we're in left the audience impressed and energized. He is facing a tough race this summer and fall and needs all of our support. His Republican opponent, Bill Brady, has a much different vision of the future for our state (and our society). We must do everything we can to help keep Pat Quinn as our Governor.

The Daniel Biss campaign offers plenty of ways to get involved:
Walk with Daniel any day of the week - every week.
Daniel is walking seven days a week now and always welcomes volunteers to walk with him.  Sign up for an afternoon and meet some voters. It's the most valuable volunteer position on the campaign. Please contact karen@danielbiss.com to get on the calendar.

Summer Interns: Have a daughter/son/neighbor's kid coming home from college or getting out of school for the summer? We can give them valuable experience volunteering on a campaign and keeping them away from the tv/computer.

July 4th Committee Chair or Co-chair: This is a biggie, but lots of fun. We need someone (or sometwo) to coordinate and plan the four parades we will be walking in on July 4th.  Includes lots of detail, time lines and almost gymnastic scheduling.

July 4th Committee Member: Help with above.

Event Volunteer: Help with planning and execution of fundraising and community events. Attention to detail and excellent communications skills needed.

Community Events: Research daily & newspapers, chambers of commerce, local community websites, etc. to find events or meetings of which we think Daniel should be aware. Can be done from home, office, Mexico.

Community Research: Research community groups that are in or have members/clients in the 17th District. This community outreach project involves contacting groups, introducing Daniel to them, and finding ways to meet their members.

Office Help/Mailings: Come on in and help with answering phones, preparing mailings, making phone calls, and whatever else needs doing that day.

By helping Daniel in whatever way you can, you'll be playing an important role in his victory this fall. Please contact karen@danielbiss.com or 847.329.1771 to volunteer.

And here are a couple other ways to help Daniel.

A New Trier Dems  pizza party on Sunday May 23rd
to help support Daniel's campaign. (See the article above for details.) Please contact karen@danielbiss.com for further information.

Join Daniel June 6th for a great event in Uptown in a turn-of-the-century mansion featuring a picnic by Hot Doug's restaurant, a piano recital by Daniel's brother, Jonathan, and other goodies. For more info contact Hot Doug's.
