Recounting, reforming, rewarding, refurnishing... check the index on the left. How will you get involved in the process this week? |
Judicial candidate Abbey Romanek could use your help for a recount.
|
When the final primary election votes were tallied, just 48 votes separated New Trier Dems member Abbey Romanek from her opponent. The two judicial candidates received a total of 22,350 votes with less than two-tenths of a percentage point separating them. A shift of 25 votes could mean a victory for Abbey. A recount will be held in March and volunteers are being sought to help in that process. To find out how you can help contact Abbey asap.

Act now to support Representative Karen May and Senator Heather Steans campaign finance reform bills. They will limit party leader contributions in general elections.
|
Last fall the State Legislature passed and the Governor signed legislation that places limits on contributions that individuals, corporations, unions and associations, and PACs can make to candidates and political parties in primary and general elections. Limits for contributions from political party and legislative caucus committees were also set -- but only for primary elections, not for general elections.
Now HB 6200 and SB 2532 are being sponsored by Democratic Representative May and Senator Steans respectively. Stean's SB 2532 could be heard in the Senate Executive Subcommittee on Campaign Finance this week so the time to act is now.
Although Republicans have also introduced contribution limits bills affecting the same groups, (with lower limits) it is more likely that the bills sponsored by the Democrats could move. Call your State Senator and State Representative and ask them to
sign on as cosponsors to HB 6200 and SB 2532. Contact information for
legislators can be found at www.ilga.gov.

Tenth Dems has put out call seeking campaign managers and unpaid volunteers.
|
Recently the 10th Dems sent this message to Democrats across the district: "Local Democratic candidates are looking to add both campaign managers and unpaid volunteers to their teams for the November 2010 elections. Pay, if any, would be modest, but for the right people, this is a great way to gain experience in campaigns and build your resume. We have great candidates with strong backgrounds and community contacts, but they need committed workers to help them win big! If you are interested, please send your resume, a brief statement about about yourself and why you would be interested in doing this kind of work to info@tenthdems.org."

About Us: The New Trier Democratic Organization is made up of hundreds of grassroots volunteers dedicated to advancing progressive ideals through the political process. We welcome your participation.
