Happy Thanksgiving!
Sunday afternoon was a beautiful example of how politically engaged so many of our area's voters are. The article below describes a very successful debate.

Also in last week's events: Comcast blocked the distribution of last week's NTDO News until late Wednesday night and delayed a Friday reminder about the Nov. 18 debate until Nov. 19. The disruption was caused by someone abusing the Constant Contact system with a huge overload of emails. Comcast then labled everything sent through Constant Contact as SPAM. The problem has now been resolved and we hope it won't happen again.

The 18th District Candidate debate was a great success.
The debate between 5 Democratic candidates for the IL 18th Legislative District seat -- Democrats Robyn Gabel, Patrick Keenan-Devlmon Kelly, Edmund Moran and Jeffrey Smith drew more than 500 people to Kingsley school. This kind of interest in political affairs is the reason our communities continue to have representation by some of the sharpest people in Illinois' and U.S. government.

All of the candidates at the debate presented themselves well. They were in general agreement on almost all issues with thoughtful, informed and varied ideas and degrees of emphasis on specific issues. Perhaps the only divergent view on a major issue came from candidate Edmund Moran concerning Choice.

The moderator Bill Smith, Editor of Evanston Now,  did a remarkable job of keeping the debaters' comments within the time allotted. The meeting actually ended a few minutes ahead of schedule!

(To learn more about the candidates' positions, visit their websites listed in the article below.)
Useful Information on
Democratic Primary candidates:

The races to be the Democratic nominee for the 10th Congressional District seat and the Illinois' 18th Legislative District seat have attracted a crowd of candidates. Because the 18th District includes a number of communities beyond New Trier's borders and the 10th District stretches from Palatine to Waukegan, many candidate activities will be happening in areas outside New Trier Township. The NTDO News will try to provide specific information for activities occurring within New Trier. Information on all other candidate activities or events can be found at the each candidate's website. Their web addresses will be provided here each week.

The New Trier Democrats have a brand new website ntdo.org. Check it out.
The New Trier Democratic Organization has a new website -- ntdo.org. The site's new design is aimed at making our Internet home more usable for site visitors -- whether they are a politically active volunteers, someone interested in a specific issue or simply a New Trier resident looking for voting information. Because the underlying structure of the site allows editing of the website's content directly by NTDO volunteers, the goal will be to keep information fresh and involving with frequent updates, encouraging regular returns by site visitors.
"All politics is local" and the more grassroots involvement our website inspires, the better the chances for electing progressive candidates across our state and our nation.
You're invited to explore the site and think about ways we might make it an even more effective tool in our battle to strengthen progressive government. Send your suggestions here.
About Us:
The New Trier Democratic Organization is made up of hundreds of grassroots volunteers dedicated to advancing progressive ideals through the political process. We welcome your participation.
