NTDO NEWS
September 23, 2009 |
In the past few days, President Obama seems to have been everywhere at once -- speaking on every major Sunday morning political show in support of health care reform, speaking to the U.N. about climate change, appearing jointly with the leaders of Israel and the Palestinian State. Some people opine that he is becoming over-exposed. But, a President's "bully pulpit" is a powerful policy tool, and we have a Democratic president who knows how to use it. We should be pleased our nation's leader is so visible and out-spoken about his agenda instead of hiding in the Rose Garden or cutting brush somewhere in Texas.

The Democratic Primary race for the Hamos seat now has five competing candidates.
|
On September 14, Edmund Moran Jr., an attorney and former long-time Evanston City Council member, announced his plans to run in next February's Democratic
primary to succeed Julie Hamos as 18th District state representative. Mr. Moran joins Robyn Gabel, a 20-year executive director of the Illinois Maternal & Child
health Coalition, Jeff Smith, an attorney and president of the Central Street Neighbors Association, Eamon Kelly, an attorney and onetime chief of staff with the Illinois State Board of
Education, and Patrick Keenan Devlin, a Legislative Director of Citizen Action/Illinois and former Health Policy Advocate at the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law. All of these candidates have shown their willingness to be politically active and involved in public service. NTDO members are urged to learn more about them in preparation for the NTDO December 13 general meeting and endorsement session.
