The Governor's Veto -- Now What?
Silent Auction Ideas?
NTDO NEWS
September 9, 2009
Don't forget -- tonight  is President Obama's health care speech to Congress -- 7 pm CST.
---------------                ----------------          ---------------
On Tuesday President Obama spoke to students across America.
His message encouraged our nation's youth to take school seriously, do their homework, stay in school, believe in themselves and their potential. -- Amazingly, in the days leading up to the President's message, a number of parents, even in educated regions like ours, became convinced that allowing their kids to hear the President's inspiring words was somehow dangerous. Now that his message has been delivered, the public knows that this wasn't true.
How could the promise of  such a positive act be so successfully distorted?  Right wing pundits and "24-7" cable news certainly played their part. The good news is that the "information" sources that spread fear of the President's school message now have egg on their face. Even the most reactionary Americans are admitting that the  message was a good one. So Maybe at least a few of those concerned parents learned even more on Tuesday than their children did -- when someone tells you to be afraid, consider the source.

Governor Quinn  vetoed the flawed HB 7 reform bill. -- Now here's what we need to do:
Governor Quinn vetoed the flawed HB 7. Now we need to make sure our legislators and legislative leaders know that we will be paying even closer attention to the revised reform legislation that has been promised.

The NTDO Reform Committee believes that true reform legislation should include the following five actions:
  • follow the federal guidelines for contribution limits
  • count in-kind donations toward those contribution limits
  • tie contribution limits to the election cycle rather than the calendar year
  • limit a candidate or incumbent to one fundraising committee
  • establish a strengthened oversight agency with
sufficient authority and resources to enforce the law
Contact the Governor. Thank him for his veto of HB 7. Urge him to insist that the legislature enact the above reform measures.
Governor Pat Quinn: 312-814-2121
Email contact form click here

Then, contact your legislators and tell them you want the above reforms in the law they write for the Governor's October signature.
