Alzheimer's Brutal Awareness
For those of you with family or friends who have been afflicted with Alzheimer's and have difficulty truly understanding what he or she is experiencing, you need to see this link. In Israel, there was a campaign during Alzheimer's awareness week, where patrons of a movie theatre were not shown the movie they paid for. You need to see the reaction. Very interesting....

Heart Attacks in Women
Women tend to ignore the warnings of heart attacks simply because we believe they are associated with chest pain, like in men. But the symptoms in women can be, and usually are, different.Women tend to feel nausea and indigestion, or tinging and pain in the left arm.In fact, women are more likely not to have chest pain.  The mortality rate is higher in women, probably because we don't pay attention to the warning signs, or deny them, and because we feel that there isn't time to take care of ourselves; you know, we have to pick up the children or get dinner on the table. Those statistics are higher in women over 55. Dr. Steven Nissan of Cleveland Clinic, believe women have a lower incidence of heart disease, so women having a heart attack have risk factors such as smoking, diabetes or genetics. Vitamin A Cuts Risk of Melanoma?
A study reported in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology suggests that  vitamin A supplements could reduce the risk of developing melanoma. In a study of 59,000 people who did not take vitamin A,  506 cases of melanoma were diagnosed. Of the 5,800 people who did take vitamin A for the previous 10 years, there were 28 cases. The study found that it was reduced in people who took high doses of the vitamin. It is considered toxic to take vitamin A in large doses, however. It can lead to liver problems, bone loss and birth defects. The recommended daily amount is 700 micrograms for women and 900 micrograms for men. The toxic amount is approximately 2,800 micrograms.  More studies are needed to determine a more exact amount. MSNBC.com, 3/1/12
Lead in Lipstick
The FDA did an independent study of lipstick and found that most of the 400 lipsticks tested positive for lead. Of the five lipstick brands with the most lead, L'Oreal was found to have the most. Color Sensational" Pink Petal had the most lead at 7.19 parts per million. Though you can easily argue that women potentially digest the lipstick by licking their lips and eating, the FDA claims that the amount of lead digested is not such to raise health concerns. To compare, children's products are forbidden if they contain lead having 100 parts per million. MSNBC.com, 2/14/2012
