"I asked for the name of a plastic surgeon and [Dr. Dabbah's] name came up three times. That was good enough for me."

To Our Patients and Friends,
I cannot believe we are into March already.  Although our friends to the north and west are still experiencing a heavy winter, March conjures up Spring to me, and St. Patrick's Day, a day associated with beer. And I bet you didn't know that March is National Peanut Month.  NOW you know why peanuts and beer go together!!  Anyway, they both happen to be healthy, if in moderation.  Read on... eat, drink and enjoy.

Green BeerBeer Drinking and Cancer
Being that beer and St. Patrick's Day are closely associated, it seems like the appropriate time to disseminate new information. Xanthohumol is an antioxidant found in some fruits and spices as well as the hops of beer. Experiments from the German Cancer Research Center have found that it also blocks a chemical reaction that may cause prostate cancer.  Of course the studies are in their infancy, but the potential is powerful.

Just Saying....
UK's Telegraph surveyed women and found that a third say putting on a pair of old, or "trophy" jeans is better than sex.  Just less than that said it would be better than a promotion and 11% said it would be better than a marriage proposal.
THIS is why you love your plastic surgeon - fitting into those jeans rates with the finer pleasures in life!!!

                 ASPIRIN AND BREAST CANCER
The Nurses Health Study, out of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, noted that women who had been diagnosed with breast cancer, received treatment, were in remission, and were taking aspirin, were half as likely to see their cancer spread and half as likely to to die from breast cancer.  Though reported in the Journal of Oncology, it should be stressed that this was more of an observation, rather than a study, and a more detailed and specific study needs to be done. It is not known, for example, whether women in remission take better care of themselves or that the process of metastasis is different that the initial cancer itself. The thinking is that metastasis is linked to inflamation and aspirin reduces inflammation, thereby reducing the spread. BUT DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN WITHOUT YOUR DOCTOR'S CONSENT because it can interfere with therapy.

March is National Peanut Month
A peanut is a legume that contains high amounts of protein. It is also a good source of Coenzyme Q10, which protects the heart, and has high antioxidant properties in the polyphenols.  Roasting the peanuts increases the levels of p-coumaric acid levels, bringing the antioxidant up 22%, rivaling strawberries and blackberries and better than beets, apples and carrots. Peanuts contain monounsaturated fats which lower cholesterol and are also a great source of vitamin e. Hubpages.com Oh, and if you or your family member has an allergy to peanuts, there is exciting news out of Cambridge University Hospitals in the UK, that immunotherapy, a method of giving a small amount of peanut IN A CONTROLLED setting, and increasing it over time, may soften the reactions.
