Thank You!
Mucho thanks to our Hope Family for all their financial help, supplies, eye glasses, prayers, etc. that you provided for our patients in Nuevo Progreso, Mx.
We were able to care for 370 patients - most adults are diabetic or have high blood pressure. Many needed additional blood work, X-rays, dental help, and surgery. We were able to provide this extra care because of the generosity of our team and team churches and friends.
Our team installed a new toilet (much needed, much appreciated by all), painted a Supply Room, purchased new shelving for that room - our guys and gals did this while the clinic was in process.
This is a general overview of how your donations and other team members donations were spent.
$7,000 in medical work (included monies left for cancer surgery)
$1,900 in supplies - over-the-counter meds, diapers, vitamins, etc.
$800 in construction/painting
$200 for Pastor Juan's 'feed the children' program
$2000 for United Methodist Church/School in the Colonias
$1700 for prescription meds
Special thanks to the team from HOPE UMC - they are Laurie Schofield (praise leader, nurse, clean-up, and everything else that she saw that needed to be done!); Carol Stansfield (Glucometer nurse, patient director, organizer, cleaner-upper, etc.); Linda Gorey (weighed patients, directed patients, organizer, kitchen help, etc.); Beki Jacobs (weighed patients, found files, looked for patients when they were lost, cookie baker); Kenny Jacobs (driver, painted, shelf installer, plumbing expert, toilet installer, escorted Kelly to town for pharmacy purchases); Kelly Pieh (pharmacists tech, runner for additional meds at the pharmacy, accountant for the pharmacy); Trevor Pieh (played with the children, loaded our vehicles with all those supplies you folks gave us, delivered the supplies to folks at the clinic, did everything asked of him - which was a lot); Steve Sigrist (the eye doctor for our patients - they thank you for all those glasses, kept our water and pop supplied for the team at the clinic, does some of everything).
We were a very generous team and because of that we were able to give HOPE to many people in Nuevo Progreso. May God Bless each of you for all you did to enable us to be Jesus' hands and feet at this Clinic. Jo |

Thank You!
The Program Committee of AWAKE Community Coalition thanks you for all that Pastor Tom, Ann Ebbert and the congregation
did to ensure that our Parent Forum held on October 17, 2009 was a success. We appreciated your partnership in this event and were impressed with the hard work and dedication of the volunteers of your congregation from the greeters, child care workers to the food preparers. We also were so very grateful for all of the effort Tom and Ann put into providing an opportunity for parents to learn and to dialogue about the hard job of setting realistic and consistent boundaries. AWAKE values its partners and greatly appreciates your role in working towards creating and sustaining a safe, healthy, drug free community. Thank you for taking part in helping us to bring important information to parents. Thanks again for your time, talents and effort. Sincerely, Kathy S. Schnapp Executive Director

Thank You!
Dear Friends, Thank you so much for your gift of $650.80 from mission collections. You are making a difference by bringing care, nurture, and treatment for hurting children and their families. Our agency is grateful that you made the decision to invest in a bright future for some of Ohio's neediest children. The United Methodist Children's Home receives funding from governmental agencies, but these funds do not come close to supporting the cost of holistic, quality care for children. You are providing the essential charitable support that makes up the gap to provide the best quality care for children who are in great need. Thank you for bringing hope and new life to Ohio's children. If you'd like to learn more about us, or would like to talk with us about other ways to help the children we serve, please don't hesitate to call or email. We are so blessed by your generous outpouring of support and concern for the UMCH children. Thank You! Sincerely, Dean W. Pulliam, MS, CAE Executive Director Rev. Steven Putka, MA, M. Div. Director of Spiritual Life & Development PS. WOW! Thank you so much for helping the children of UMCH, God is making miracles happen through your giving. Blessings, SP | |

The female child is 11 years old and wears a large in tops and 11 in pants. She is interested in Educational activities. (especially workbooks with questions/problems to be answered)
Family #2 - Mom with 2 sons and 1 daughter
Child #1 is male, 12 years old - sizes 11-12
Child #2 is male, 11 years old - sizes 14-16
Both boys are interested in sports and games.
Child #3 is female, 7 months old - wears 6-9 months.
Please have the gifts wrapped and bring them to fellowship hall, marked with a note saying what the gift is so we can avoid duplicates, Family #1 or #2, Child 1,2 or 3 (for the second family) If you are interested in helping with delivery to these families, please let Connie in the church office know. We are hoping to deliver the gifts on December 19th.
--------------------------------------------------
Christmas Party at Friendly Center The United Methodist Women are once again collecting Christmas gifts for the children at Friendly Center. We ask that new toys be chosen and that they be wrapped and marked "boy" or "girl" with appropriate age. Also needed are cookies packed in a sturdy container. A box marked "Friendly Center" has been placed in Fellowship Hall for your contribution. Deadline is Monday, December 7. For some of these children this will be the only toy they receive during these tough economic times and we know that they will greatly enjoy having them.
----------------------------------------------------
Dear Friends- One year ago our son Owen was admitted to Toledo Children's Hospital after suffering what we found out was a pediatric stroke. We spent a week with him in the hospital and during that time learned a lot about what it takes to survive a crisis. One of the most important things we learned was how much of healing and recovery is NOT related to medicine. During the time Owen was in the hospital, the time he did the best was when he was playing, having fun, and not thinking about being "sick." Toledo Hospital has a Child's Life Program which provides this opportunity to its youngest patients. This program provides the patients access to a library, arts and crafts, toys, and other services that encourage kids to focus on fun during their time at the hospital. In honor of the upcoming holiday season, and as a way to help others the way we were helped through play, Mike, Owen, Caitlyn, and I are planning to donate a variety of toys, art supplies, and other goodies to the hospital this year. We would like to make as meaningful of a contribution as possible, so we are asking for your help. If you would be willing to donate a toy we could all make the holidays better for sick children in our area. We would like to have all the donated items collected by December 13th so we can get them to the hospital in time for Christmas. You can drop off your item in the Hope fellowship hall in the box marked "Children's Hospital". Below you will find a list of items suggested by the hospital. (For the safety of all patients, all contributed items must be new.) The Henderson Family Suggested Items: Items that CANNOT be accepted: Action Figures Used Items Arts and Crafts supplies Toy guns or other violent toys Crayons and Markers Toxic Paints or other toxic craft items Dolls Toys with many small parts DVDs (G, PG, and PG-13 only) Humorous medical toys or games Musical Toys Play-Doh Puzzles Rattles and Squeeze toys Teen accessories (hair clips, nail polish, etc) Books Stickers
Choose one or all charities according to your what your heart wishes and your budget. You are not expected to donate to all of them. |

In The News!
Marcus Waugh
Waugh scripts different path at Cincinnati
Bearcat senior moves when need arises By Bill Koch · bkoch@enquirer.com · November 19, 2009
Enquirer file photo
Marcus Waugh (far left) was fired up after his fourth-quarter interception during the Bearcats' win over Miami back in October.
His father, Thomas, played center at Ohio State from 1975 to 1979 and was captain of the 1979 Buckeye team that played in the Rose Bowl.
Waugh was quite a star in his own right at Toledo St. John's High School. He was first-team all-state, rushed for 2,735 yards, scored 38 touchdowns, was an outstanding linebacker, and averaged 42.7 yards as a punter.
But when he arrived at UC in 2005, he began a transformation from a star to a member of the supporting cast, a role that he has embraced as enthusiastically as if he were one of UC's marquee players.
During his five years at UC, he has played four different positions and has changed positions six times before settling in this season as a backup linebacker. "I've played linebacker, fullback, defensive line and O-line," Waugh said. "So far my favorite has been linebacker. It's given me a chance to really run downhill and have fun hitting people."
When he was approached by coach Brian Kelly about trying linebacker this year, Waugh was all for it. "I haven't played linebacker since high school," Waugh said. "I said to myself, 'I played on the defensive line. Why not move back and get my hand out of the dirt and have some fun?' "
The 6-foot, 270-pound Waugh, who still gets to play offense as a blocker in certain goal-line situations, never envisioned that his college career would unfold this way. He saw himself as a blocking fullback who would occasionally function as a receiver.
It hasn't worked out that way. When he was first asked to change position, Waugh wondered if maybe he wasn't as good as he thought he was.
"When the changes started I was kind of down on myself at first but at the same time I thought I've got to do what's right for the team," Waugh said. "At least the coach trusts me to be able to move positions and be productive. They always reassured me that it's not that you're not good enough, it's that you don't fit this certain position."
Waugh has 10 tackles this year - five solo, five assisted - and has intercepted one pass. "It's really what our success is built on," Kelly said, "seniors who have given themselves up to play a role. He hasn't liked his role but he's accepted it. It says a lot about guys who have dedicated themselves to wins and not individual stats. That's Marcus Waugh."
Waugh and his dad hoped that he would follow in his father's footsteps at Ohio State. Instead, he finds himself playing on a team ranked higher than the Buckeyes. "He kind of takes it with a grain of salt," Waugh said. "When we played Ohio State a few years ago, he was in the Ohio State section with Cincinnati gear on. He says I'll be a Cincinnati fan until you're done and then I'll go back to Ohio State.
"Our dream was to go to Ohio State but it wasn't in the cards. Just to stay in Ohio, it was really good. He's always been proud. He hasn't missed a game since my seventh grade year. Just to (have me) play football ... at the Division I level, he was really proud."

Quilts of Love
"Quilts of Love" is an outreach program in which we make tied comforters and give them to the Children's Services for use in their program. We usually meet every Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. on the stage in Fellowship Hall. We'd love for you to join us (we have a good time). For those of you who can't meet at the church there are numerous ways you can share in this project. We always have tops to be sewn. Easy to follow directions are in the packet found in our box in Fellowship Hall or perhaps you love to do laundry. We almost always need material washed and ironed.
We would love to have you participate in this rewarding project. You do not need to be a church member to help. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Judy Bucher, (419) 865-2140; Sally Bergfeld, (419) 878-4285; Karen Dress, (419) 878-7216 or Louise Stedman, (419) 875-6266. Thank you for your consideration.

BIBLE QUIZ
Only one of the four gospels has the story of King Herod being fearful when he learned from the wise men that a special baby had been born. The wise men asked, "Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage." Shocked and threatened by their query, Herod pretended to want to pay his respects to the newborn himself. He asked the wise men to return and tell him where the child was. Then he ordered his soldiers to kill every male child age 2 and under. That ancient holocaust is often called the Slaughter of the Innocents, or the Massacre of the Infants. Which gospel contains the shocking story? A. Matthew B. Mark C. Luke D. John |
