Let's clean!!

work daySaturday, October 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. we will be cleaning the inside of our church facilities.  There will be sign-up sheets with tasks for each area to be cleaned after each service for the next two Sundays for you to choose your favorite activity and indicate your willingness to help us with this project.  Our goals are pretty aggressive so we need lots of help.  We will have pizza for lunch about 12:30 p.m.   If we are not able to finish all the projects on October 10, we will come together again on October 24 for the same hours to complete any tasks left to be done.  Many hands make light the work so please consider joining in this project to make our church facility shine!!

Our next meeting will be on October 19 at 7:00 P.M. in the Fellowship Hall.  The program will be presented by Lisa Streight and will focus on the work of the West Ohio Conference.  We have been exploring the theme, "Who's at the Table?" this year and its relationship to our personal lives and to the lives of others in our immediate community and around the world.  This month we focus on "Where Would Jesus Sit?"

Hostesses for the evening will be Karen Lance and Louise McVicker.  Carol Streight will lead our devotional time.

We invite all persons to our programs and meetings!

Music Ministry guitar classes....

Guitar LessonsThe music ministry team is currently conducting guitar classes in the choir room at the north end of the gym every Tuesday.

We will have three sessions:
·Beginner class is from 4:30-5:00p.m.
The class is open to all ages.  You just need a guitar.  Reading music is not a requirement.
· There will be two intermediate classes for those who have a basic understanding of playing chords and perhaps have attended previously:
                5:15 - 5:45 p.m.
                6:00 - 6:30 p.m.

The music sessions are open to all ages.  They are basic introduction to playing chords to accompany singing.  Call a friend to join you.  It is a great way to have fun and learn something new

If there is anyone who has borrowed a guitar and will not be attending lessons at this time, please return it so that the new students may use it.   And if there is anyone who has a guitar and would like to donate it to the church for student use, please see Laurie Schofield.  There is always someone who is interested in trying but is reluctant to purchase a guitar.

If you have any questions, please see, call or e-mail Laurie Schofield - 877-5290 - l.schofield@roadrunner.com

  Mission of the Month
  for October

Celebrate Clergy Appreciation Month in October
Pastor Appreciation

October is Clergy Appreciation Month (CAM) and the perfect time to commit to praying for and encouraging our ministers on a regular basis. This year, several ministries, denominations, publishers, bookstores and church groups are participating in this significant event, including the National Day of Prayer Task Force (NDP). As Shirley Dobson, Chairman of the NDP Task Force, has stated, "Our pastors are on the front lines in the effort to defend our faith and our families. We must hold them before the Lord in prayer ... I have a very tender heart for pastors, because they've been there for all of us when we have been in times of crisis-when we've been in times of suffering ... we owe these pastors a debt of gratitude that we'll never be able to pay."

God's word calls us to support clergy. In 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 we are told: "And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love" (The Message).

Ideas to Honor Your Pastor
1. Send a card
2. Altar flowers
3. Balloons
4. A surprise vacation
5. Gift certificates to stores or restaurants
6. A note of appreciation
7. Have your kids make a card
8. Homemade Cookies
9. Blueberry Pie
10. Fruit basket

These are just a few ideas...be creative!!!

Sign up to help in the Clothing Closet!

sign upWe are looking for volunteers to work in the Clothing Closet on Saturdays from 8:30am-12:30pm.  There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside of the kitchen.

We also need help with straightening out the shelves on Monday's and Wednesday's at about 3:30pm and should take about an hour.  You can also sign up for this on the bulletin board.

Available for lending is one wheelchair, a three wheeled walker and an adjustable cane.  These are available for lending or giving. JOIN THE HOPE GLEAN TEAM!
Gleaning is picking up good useable food that the automated harvesters have missed.  The food is then taken to area food pantries where it is distributed to low income families in need of food.  The only skill involved in gleaning is the ability to bend over and put something in a basket.  The only cost is some time.  The rewards are a great feeling that in the name of Christ you've helped to feed people who are hurting.

Crops that are gleaned in this area are diverse, including sweet corn, pickles, kohlrabi, apples, potatoes, and tomatoes.  Gleaning projects take place at a variety of places and times, so you can pick the ones that fit your schedule.  Some are very close.  For example, Melinda Grant, helped glean sweet corn recently right in the Monclova area.  Gleaning projects have a starting time, but you can choose to stay any length of time that you choose.  You can go individually or as a family.  Gleaning projects provide great opportunities for teaching children how to serve others.

Gleaning projects often come up quickly, so our District office has devised a system of email alerts that can be sent directly to you and will even include a map to the site.  If you are interested in being "on call" to hear about gleaning projects as they develop, please put your name, email address, and phone number on the sheet located on the hallway bulletin board.  Knowing who is interested in gleaning will also help us communicate with each other to do some car pooling if you so desire.

I encourage you to give this simple but wonderful way to serve a try!
--Pastor Tom

FINANCIAL NEWS

Well friends, it doesn't seem possible, but the end of our 1st. three (3) year commitment to our Building Fund Pledge is fast approaching.  The official "end date" is October 31st, 2009, so at this time I'm asking you to consider "catching up", if you are behind.  I fully realize that the tough economic times are hurting us all, but try thinking all of the blessings God has given to you and respond accordingly.

Come September we are going to ask you to "re-up" by signing on for a 2nd  three (3) year commitment plan so that we can continue to pay off our beautiful new kitchen and the facility up-dates that our busy Trustees have been taking care of.  For this second round of commitments we are only asking you to donate to the NOW Fund, so that we can get our debt paid off in a timely manner.  The FUTURE Fund will be put on hold for the time being.     As of June 30th, 2009 our Construction Debt was $445,308.76, so as you can see, we have a long way to go before we are debt free.  However, we are being able to do what we promised to do - reach out to the community, especially through the kitchen facilities with our Wednesday lunches and also expand our ministries.  Our principle on the loan has been reduced by $12,677.00 YTD so we are on the right track.
For those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to take part in our Building Fund, now is the time to jump on board.  We'd love to share this great opportunity with you.  Just see myself or any Building Committee member and we'd be pleased to give you information.

Of course, the Annual 2010 Stewardship Campaign for general operating funds is also upcoming in the Fall and much more information on this will be coming soon.

If paying automatically by Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) will help you to manage your giving more evenly and economically, please see me as soon as possible and I will get you signed up.  It's easy to do and you'll never have to worry about making sure your "church check" gets made out in time.

Thank you all for your continued financial support to God's ministries and His Church .. Hope Church appreciates each and every one of you.  May God continue to bless each one of you.  Remember, "There, but for the grace of God, go I" and continue to be thankful for each and every blessing He so graciously bestows on each one of us.

Namaste,
Joyce Aldred
Financial Secretary

Quilts of Love
Quilts
"Quilts of Love" is an outreach program in which we make tied comforters and give them to the Children's Services for use in their program.  We usually meet every Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. on the stage in Fellowship Hall. We'd love for you to join us (we have a good time).  For those of you who can't meet at the church there are numerous ways you can share in this project. We always have tops to be sewn.  Easy to follow directions are in the packet found in our box in Fellowship Hall or perhaps you love to do laundry.  We almost always need material washed and ironed.

We would love to have you participate in this rewarding project.  You do not need to be a church member to help. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Judy Bucher, (419) 865-2140; Sally Bergfeld, (419) 878-4285; Karen Dress, (419) 878-7216 or Louise Stedman, (419) 875-6266. Thank you for your consideration.

Great Food For All

GroceriesHope is hosting a new program in which you can purchase $60-$80 worth of name brand quality food for only $30.  Our next delivery of these food items is July 11, (pick up times will be 8:30am-10:30am here at Hope).

This low cost food ministry is open to ALL, and everyone looking after their food budget is encouraged to participate.  We want to serve our church family community as well as the larger Anthony Wayne area community with this program, so if you know of someone who would be interested in the Great Food for All purchasing program, send them this way!

Make sure to stop at the information table in the fellowship hall this Sunday to find out more about the volunteer opportunities that this ministry will have available as well as find out how you can place an order!

B. Psalm 8
C. Psalm 23
D. Psalm 51

I am your church envelope
I would like to talk with you, for
I am part of your church life.
I may be a complete stranger to you, but
I can help you be a better Christian.
I like to go to worship on Sunday, for
I help you to be Christ's partner.
I am very small, but
I am the keystone of your church program.
I am a weekly reminder of your daily blessings.
I dare you to be as good to God as he has been to you.
I am only paper, but
I carry the full gift of a generous heart.
I am the only pocketbook you need on Sunday, and
I promise not to be a burden.
I am your chance to preach, for
I am a silent sermon of your devotion.
