Meet the Artists
|
Tanya Burka returns to Pendulum as a guest artist for 2010-2011. She began her career in the air at the age of nine. After receiving her BS from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, Tanya enrolled in Montreal's National Circus
School to complete a three-year intensive formation. Since then,
she's been working as a performer, educator and choreographer specializing in
aerial acts and contortion.
She worked exclusively with Pendulum from 2007-2008, and has performed across N. America and Asia for live
stage, TV productions, corporate and private events, product
launches, and more.
Tanya is contributing choreography for High Art and will be one of the instructors for the summer camp and intensive.

A letter from our Artistic DirectorApril was an incredible month for Pendulum.
We started out with a weekend in Pioneer Courthouse Square performing to promote Cirque du Soleil's Kooza. We followed that up with two weekends of celebration and performance in X: 10 Years of Inspiration in Flight. We were delighted to see so many new faces among our old friends, had standing room only for closing night, and raised enough money from the raffle to support two scholarships for our summer camp. We rounded out the month with an appearance at Girls, Inc's Power of the Purse gala which kicks off a number of charitable appearances we have scheduled this spring & summer.
We were sad to say goodbye to Melissa Kellerman after 2 years of being a strong force as both a coach and performer. We are currently conducting a search for a new Head of Education to start with us this fall.
Read on for news of what this spring and summer hold. Including updates on High Art collaborations, our Summer Intensive, more fun with Cirque du Soleil (heads up, Seattle!) and other events.

Our April show was a wonderful experience. It is the first time we've held a show over two weekends and we were pleased to have so many of you come back to see more.
The April 25th Community Day was fun filled with face painting by Roving Horse Henna, snacks from Whole Foods and Saint Cupcake, and a dress up photo booth where guests could have their photo taken with company member, MoNika Ell.
Apprentices Nikki Unwin & Josie Oleson get some photobooth time w/ MoNika El at our Community Day.
Enjoy these photos. We have more on our Facebook page and still more to add in the coming weeks.
High Art: A Surreal Portrait of the SoulRehearsals for High Art are underway. Tanya Burka returned to Portland at the end of March to choreograph a group adagio piece.
Christian Fitzharris arrives on May 14 for a residency with company members on High Art's storyline and character development. Christian co-created the
two clown acts in Cirque du Soleil's Kooza and has been touring with
the show for the past four years.
Singer Sasha Lazard, cellist Dave Eggar, drummer Ya'el Biz & their collaborators are putting the finishing touches on the music. The rough edits are already stunning!
Tickets for High Art are already on sale at the Portland Art Museum's box office. Reserve early and help us spread the word.

Special event appearances.
Pendulum maintains our commitment to our community with several charitable event appearances in April and May. We appeared at Girls Inc's "Power of the Purse," Cascade AIDS Project's Annual Art Auction and Gala (on behalf of Cirque du Soleil) and are gearing up for Albertina Kerr's Masquerade Ball on May 14.
We are delighted to be developing a relationship with the Cirque du Soleil team. The event in early April in Pioneer Courthouse Square was a great opportunity to share our work for free with the general public. Many new friends and fans as a result. We've been invited to do a similar event in Seattle the first week of June.
Information on all upcoming events and event entertainment offerings are on our website.
